Letter to Fishwrap | Weisner Forces People to Spend Money Outside Aurora

In light of Hi-Lite 30's demise, I can only say that it's a shame that once again the little guy lost out to big money. The theater was a great source of entertainment for the folks who had little. How sad for the rich who've never been to the drive-in or have forgotten because of the glories of their money.

Does anyone really believe that the schools will stop with their referendums after the rich guy's done building?

I was hopeful that with Aurora's negative image, the city would redeem itself, for the cause of families. Once again the city did what it wanted in spite of the will of the people.

At election time I'll remember the mayor and most of our alderman. Meanwhile, I'll be taking my revenue and my family to West Chicago's theater, just as I take them out of Aurora for bumper-cars, riverwalks, etc.

Mike Mueller
Aurora, Illinois

Note: We note the local fishwrap endorsed the killing of the drive-in theater and did not disclose to its readers the $6,500 payments from Bigelow to Weisner.

Yes, we MUST remember these things when it's election time.

Don't forget, Weisner himself goes outside Aurora to do his shopping and avoid Aurora's high sales taxes.

I hate that we have to leave Aurora to do a lot of fun things. I try so hard to spend my money here and it irks me that DuPage and Kendall counties, as well as Batavia, are getting some of my business. What do I have to do--BEG the may and alderman to take my money in Aurora?

Besides the drive-in, I want a Trader Joe's here. I want a Target on the east side too (I see land near the Ace on New York that would be perfect). Is it so much to ask that the second largest city in Illinois have the basic needs for its citizens met?

To Brandy Carrelli,
I agree with you. I really like Trader Joes and would love to see one here. It would be nice not to have to go Naperville. Target would be nice also. Definitely the Drive-In needs to stay. The Mayor, Bob Vaughn and 10 aldermen DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CITIZENS IN THE SECOND LARGEST CITY IN ILLINOIS! IT IS QUITE APPARENT NOW BY THE FACT THEY IGNORED THE PETITIONS(1,942), LETTERS, PHONE CALLS,E-MAILS! The only money that counts in this City is Bigelows. We can pick our friends and spouses, but not our family. I am glad I am not a part of Bigelows family as I would not condone what he has done, and if he didn't change what he has done, I would have to stay out of his life. This also goes for the others mentioned in this posting.

Please don't be lulled into thinking it is just Bigelow. No no, look for wacky deals coming down the pipe with the likes of Mundy, Dolan & Murphy, M&A Concrete, just to name a few.

Watch carefully any deals for Copley as well.

This guy is a bigger Crook that Dick Daley!

I agree. Regardless if you were for or against the Drive In, the fact remains that many people were for the drive in and the administration totally ignored the people to reward a political supporter.

This is not new, look at the personnel this guy has, they are all political supporters: Bob Vaughan $20,000 gets you an $80,000 a year job for three years (That's $220,000 profit not to mention keeping his early retirment scheme); Dan B. got a good raise and promotion to a job he knows nothing about; Alayne got a full-time job she is not qualified for at over $80,000 just for a few BBQ's, Rosario got moved out of the garage and into a nice cushy desk job in a position he knows nothing about, Gerry Galloway, campaign manager, who is gone now but not without $60,000 of the City's money. Chuck Nelson, another big time supporter, has a nice cushy full time job making well over $60,000 (or is it $80,000?) a year for his support. Let's see, who have we missed??? Oh yes! The $15,000 a year (total of $45,000 for the three year contract) kick back to Dave Hipp (another supporter) for arranging the very unethical contract in order for Bob V. to "legally" be employed for the City. It appears the supporters of Weisner with integrity have all left the city; and now he is left with just the cronies.

Can it get much better than that??? Contribute and get a job, that is what this is all about!!

We need to step up and send a clear message that this ISN'T CHICAGO and we the residents are not going to stand for it! And the only way to do it now is to vote off his cronies that are on the City Council and get some honest people in there to stop him!!
