The movie "Superman Returns" opens at midnight (some places at 10pm) tonight or generally nationwide on Wednesday, June 28th. However, you can't watch it in the City of Aurora because Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner and his cronies are preventing the only theater from operating.
During the drive-in theater drama, we sent out word to a "high ranking official" at a major Hollywood studio there is a story here. People vs. Power. Cronyism. Corruption. Arrogant mayor. Greedy developer. Lies. Money for favors. Stunts. Scams. Scandals. Investigations. Local fishwrap issues. No accountability. Rallies. A region of millions hearing about it. Helicopters flying over our metropolis. Even kids pleading with adults to do the right thing. And that was just with the drive-in, not the other hundreds of problems like the irresponsible tax increases, wild spending, rewarding other cronies or the bizarre "reduce shootings by just 20%" goal.
You get the idea...the second largest metropolis in the state of Illinois has big problems, no movie theater and needs big solutions.
So, here's the deal...we promote this movie and we get the services of a reporter (and superhero) who knows a thing about seeking truth and justice. His name is Clark Kent and he's joining OpenlineBlog starting Wednesday (sorry fishwrap).
Oh and yes, there is movie or two in the works. More on that later :)

That is cool!
Great countdown! I definitely plan to see the movie.
I see chief Powell was in an auto accident in downtown aurora. So far he was beat down on the way to work, daydreaming and hit the car in front of him, allowed so-called bogus gang numbers to be released. This guy is on a roll.
Superman as he flys over Aurora:
" Look donw on the street, is it blight with santa claus standing in front of it? Is that santa getting money in a dark alley? Does santa run the city? No it is the corrupt mayor I have heard about. (Thought bubble: I thought Santa was better looking and this guy has way to much gray hair)
With my Xray Vision and super hearing I should have this guy behind bars in No time flat. I should be able to round up all of the other rascals that run this corrupt city as well!"
People on the streets of Aurora: (except for Cronies) "We are saved it's SuperMan!"
Cronies: " uh Oooo"
Big problem with immerging issues is that time is not on our side. Now the city council has implemented "fast track" for deciding on developers projects.
The drive-in decision may have been more favorable if we had more time to mobilize. Perhaps there may be more outcry now with the push from Openlineblog.
We need to protest "fast track."
The problem is not with Fast Track.
Whats lacking is commonsense track.
I had just pointed out a nice little fact to my Mother a few days ago. With all these movies Davinci Code, Superman, Pirates of the Carribean 2 all these movies people had been waiting for to see I think that the drive-in would have been getting some business. I don't know thats just a thought but I think it may be vaild. Plus where can you watch two movies for the price of one anymore.
This metropolis of Aurora needs BIG help, so if Superman is on his way, I'm all for it. Lex Luther is smarter than Weisner, so that should help!
Very creative!
Too bad we can't see Superman flying at the drive-in theater thanks to Perry Bigelow and Tom Weisner.
I'd love to see Superman at a drive-in theater.
Shame on Bigelow!
this is a great blog and if you are adding the man of steel, sign me up for one of those t-shirts and bumper stickers (I'll email you guys with my name and address).
by the way, I live in Naperville and you guys have quite a following here.
Okay guys, did anyone else get goose bumps watching the video background?
Thanks Openline for the new guy and the trailer!

Of course the Drive-In would be getting business if it was open. That is why it is not open. If opened it would have gotten more attention than it has. This would have really hurt Bigelows, Weisner, Bob Vaughn and certain aldermens plans with the favorable publicty. So, it sits with no upkeep so that it makes it look worse. Just to help their cause. Nova was going to give $0.25 per ticket to D131. So much for the others above concern in this matter. The Drive-In is not annexed so it could still have opened again this year under the County Codes. So much for this ploy. The final decision was up to Bigelow in this matter-by his decision it tells me that everything that comes out of that mans mouth is a lie. If you read the Donation Agreement you will see that the Drive-In never had a chance. Also if you read the P&D minutes from Aug of 2005, it will show what a blatent lier Bigelow is and how some of the Aldermen were for the Drive-In and wanted it to stay. They have done a turn about and will not answer why.
It really says something about Bigelow that he has prevented the drive-in from operating this season while he plays his scams with the city.
What a shame. That theater could be operating right now very successfully.

You are very right, not only could it be operating successfully, but BRINGING IN REVENUE FOR D131!!!!!!
