Memo to HR Dept | Weisner Goes AWOL, Dock His Pay Again

MEMO

Re: Tom Weisner AWOL
Dock His Pay Again; See Water Crisis for Reference

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Yo Alexandrou,

It has come to our attention City of Aurora employee Thomas J. Weisner (hereinafter "Weisner") may have gone AWOL again from his responsibilities to the taxpayers of Aurora.

As you recall, Weisner disappeared from his responsibilities during the city's water crisis of 2004. He later resigned by allegedly slipping a note under Mayor Stover's door and telling people he was going to work on his campaign...during the water crisis. Or was his excuse to become a telecom consultant?

Whatever...for his vanishing act, we note you then docked his pay for certain days missed, even after his paycheck was issued (he did pay taxpayers back, right?).

On Tuesday, August 22, 2006, we understand Weisner again disappeared, right in the middle of a City Council meeting. Leaving aside what this says about his disregard for taxpayers, we hear he may have had to get out of town to his real home in Florida. Just walking out on one of the most important responsibilities a mayor has just seems sad. He at least waited until he made sure his crony, Perry Bigelow, got his deal through. Otherwise, Bigelow could dock him for $6,500.

So, could the appropriate thing to do in this case be to dock Weisner's pay AGAIN? Going AWOL means to most "absent without official leave." The City Council was not informed nor consented to any leave, so Weisner's personal whim is not official.

Thanks for your attention to this. If you've already cut his paycheck, just make sure he pays back taxpayers...again.

Sincerely,

Jason Bourne
Director of Investigations

I was at this Council meeting. The way he got up and just left was embarrassing. I keep trying to give this guy a chance to prove himself and at each turn he has been a complete dissapointment.

Weisner never was and looks like he never will be Mayoral material.

Anonymous said...

What is required to impeach this guy? I really want to know?

Anonymous said...

I'm honestly trying to understand this. Are you people saying Weisner actually just got up and left in the middle of a meeting without having the basic respect to explain to the entire city council and public present where he was going?

The minutes of that meeting should NOT be approved unless it's specifically lists why Weisner walked out on the meeting.

Anonymous said...

Maybe he was afraid he'd have to explain how he went from "blame me" for the land scam to "blame everyone else"

Anonymous said...

I hope the nice people who were taking the video got Weisner's vanishing act on tape.

Anonymous said...

I would say, someone should ASK Mr. Weisner specifically why he walked out of the meeting. Give him a chance to explain before assuming the worst!

It seems that this blog is too eager to vilify the mayor without bothering to investigate his motives. Maybe Mr. Weisner was emotional and upset about something unrelated to the issue being discussed, and chose to leave the room instead of appearing unprofessional. For example, next week would have been his son's 22nd birthday (say what you want about how Mr. Weisner's done his job so far--he and his wife were loving parents to their disabled son, and must be missing him terribly at this time of year).

I supported this guy for mayor (voted for him & had a yard sign) because he ran a more positive campaign than Mr. Irvin, and was a Peace Corps veteran and foster parent. Of course, I had no idea that he'd bring one of the East School Board demons onto his council (in addition to TempEmp).

Go ahead, flame away--but let's try to give the mayor a chance to explain!

Anonymous said...

Yes, the mayor left the meeting right after the Bigelow item was approved. He then beat it to the airport and caught a plane to Florida. As this is a fifth Tuesday (tomorrow) he will not be back in town until next week. Call his office and see. Of course, they may lie about his location.

Anonymous said...

To 11:54am, Weisner's opportunity to explain was AT THE TIME.

I'm sorry for his son's death last year, but that's NO EXCUSE to go AWOL from a city council meeting.

I don't think it's fair to blame this blog for being critical of a mayor going AWOL at a meeting. That's Weisner's fault. The fishwrap obviously didn't have the guts to tell readers he bolted, even though they had a reporter there.

Whatever "explanation" Weisner comes up with is not going to explain why he failed to inform the city council and public.

Even Mike Saville, who took over for Weisner, failed to explain that he was taking over for Weisner and what was going on. This isn't THEIR private business. It's the PUBLIC's business. It seems this critical distinction has been forgot.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, but I disagree with that statement. It is one thing to have personal issues, which is fine everybody does, but going awol twice is unacceptable when you are the one who runs a city. If president Bush had a family issue would it give him the right to walk out on the country? Not that he is one of my personal fave presidents but still. I think there is a time and place for that and when it comes to issues that effect the city as a whole that isn't the right time. However I am not saying that he wouldn't be upset around this time, but lets not give him ideas as to why he turns his back on the city. Noone villifies him as to what he does those are his actions and when you walk out of a room while a city meeting is takeing place that leaves him (our Mayor) open to criticizim. After all like I stated above I really don't think it is professional for a person who is sopposed to run a city, government, or country to behave in such a manner, if he would have stated he was leaving and excused himself properly the story may have been diffrent.

Anonymous said...

Just my observation, but neither Irvin nor Weisner ran positive campaigns. Irvin's was much more postive before the primary before he imploded. Weisner had those terrible fear-mongering mailers. They both were two bad choices. I don't want to see Weisner continue and I don't want to see Irvin run for anything. They both have no credibility.

I would like to see someone like Rick Lawrence or Stephanie Kifowit or Bill Wyatt or someone who's special interest are taxpayers, not cronies.

This blog has done such a great job of dealing with issues, I'd vote for the blog for mayor over Weisner and Irvin combined.

Anonymous said...

If it's okay for Weisner to just walk out of a PUBLIC meeting without explaining anything to the PUBLIC, why bother attending in the first place? Why do we even need a mayor?

Weisner is getting paid over $100K to take the heat of being mayor. It's not like he's doing this for free and we all knows he's getting thousands here and there in contributions from cronies.

Weisner was WRONG to walk out of that meeting no matter what the excuse is.

Anonymous said...

no see 11:54 is is protocol if you leave you ask to be excused. I think many of our mothers taught us this simple respect. Evenmoreso at a public meeting when you are the MAYOR. I am now convinced this guy as well as 7 of the ten council members are way over their heads.

Anonymous said...

I know its off subject, but does anyone know who is the current owner of record for the land that they are hauling dirt off of that is suppossed to be the Shodeen development along the river.

Anonymous said...

If memory serves me right, Dave Stover rarely made a Council Meeting during his final term....but it may just have been the meetings that I attended.

Weisner knows better than to just disappear from the dais without explanation. That is considered rude in any setting. He does not seem to be the same person who wanted to be MAYOR. I wonder what happened??

Remember, Weisner received an overwhelming amount of votes from the good citizens of this town.

Could it be that we all were fooled???

I heard a rumor that the Pilmers want Whitey Peters to throw his hat in the ring on the next Mayoral race.....can that be true??? Could he win???

Anonymous said...

Openline

You need to address why you are deleting certain postings, and I do not mean the obvious ones that contain foul language, but the others like the two today about Peters and his potential run for mayor. Why are you deleting these types of things? I am an avid reader but have now after seeing this happen more than a few times become suspicious of your true intent here. You speak about corruption and cronyism all the time yet you too appear to engage in it. Too bad, I thought you had a good thing going here.

Anonymous said...

5:29

How is deleting a post if it is true? Corruption?

If It is true I am sure their is a good reason for the deletion Like foul language or libel / slander or other legal issues.

I have seen very few post removed all with good reason or by the author of them themselves it will even tell you when that is the case.

Many 'blogs' Like Leroy Keiths Website have to be approved by the moderator of the site before they even get posted openline to my knowledge never has done that.

Anonymous said...

I have been reading this blog off and on all day and I have seen nothing that was deleted. What did the comments say. I have noticed that someone keeps saying that things have been deleted so I have been watching and I have not noticed it.

Anonymous said...

To annon 8/28 @ 11:54
Why was Weisner not emotional in the beginning of the meeting? Why after the vote for Bigelow? Why no explaintion for his leaving from anyone? We all have had sadness and grief, does that give us the right to just leave our jobs or commitments without expaintion? Of course not! Is this excuse going to be given everytime he does something wrong? Remember, if there was a tie vote for Bigelow that Weisner is the deciding factor. Conflict of interest in this. Think about this.
to annon 8/28 @ 11:31 am
Yes, the kind people were still taping.

Anonymous said...

The first post talked about how the Pilmers were going to get Peters to run for mayor.

The second post talked about how ridiculous this would be.

Both have vanished.

Openlineblog you need to respond to why you are engaging in this practice. Whether these posts are "true" or not they should remain as is (and again, like stated before none contained foul language or the like)
Your silence on this issue is even more concerning and you will lose some avid readers and posters if you do not explain why you remove these. Believe me I want this blog to succeed more than ever, BUT cannot support something that I know to be engaging in decietful practices.

Anonymous said...

11:54 I can relate to your comments, but it has been quite awhile since this happened and do not forget he was present for the Shodeen photo opp. only days after. So the days of giving this guy some slack have come to an end. Sorry, look for some other reason he has and is acting like a child.

Openline said...

Just for clarification, we did not remove ANY comment today. We would welcome anyone to express any view on the Pilmers or whatever. In fact, we would find any comment of Whitey Peters running for mayor quite amusing and interesting :)

Some posters who sign in with their own names are able to delete their own comments.

We strongly encourage vibrant, respectful and diverse views, even if we don't all agree all the time.

Anonymous said...

Check out 3:13 with regard to the queston/comment about the Pilmers wanting Whitey Peters run for Mayor.

Anonymous is stating that it is a rumor and asking for clarification, or if anyone else has also heard this.

If it was deleted, at least this one has returned.

Openline said...

Yes, there is a comment at 3:13pm, so perhaps someone assumed it was deleted, but it was not. If there was some other comment, we did not delete it.

Anonymous said...

Thank you openlineblog for your response.

Anonymous said...

Could you imagine if this were true. Peters for Mayor I think I am going to hurl.

How can a rinky dink real estate business have any infuence in such a large city (if they really do, I for one do not believe it for a second). Maybe this is part of why Aurora is the way it is.

One has to laugh though even at the thought of this guy running for anything again. He does not even deserve to be alderman. Put him, Abby Schuler, Juany Garza and Sheketa Hart-Burns on the same plane to florida as weisner. They all make such an dynamic group maybe they could help with the election issues down there.

Anonymous said...

Except for Lawrence and Kifowit, none of the current aldermen have a snowball's chance in making it for mayor.

Anonymous said...

That is an excellent point on not approving the minutes for last Tuesday's city council meeting unless it specifically explains why Weisner went AWOL.

Anonymous said...

This blog has been done a great job of encouraging diverse opinions and letting people speak their minds. I have said before and I will say again the authors of this blog deserve some combination Nobel Prize, Pulitzer, some high-tech award, some innovation award and a profile in courage award all together. They have CHANGED our little world here for the better with creativity, brilliant writing and amazing insight. If Openline ran the fishwrap or even this city, just imagine what they could do.

or hopefully getting re-elected 8:39pm

I agree with 10:19pm and would also like to say that the bloggers here are also worthy of the same acolades.

Anyone who calls the Mayors office or emails him about this, please post if you get an answer. As of yet he has never answered my phone calls or emails. Also know that Vaughan is in the same office as Weisner and I have left message for him and he does not answer. Why should Vaughn as he knows he is going to get his pay and know that we, the taxpayers are paying for this. Must be nice for them to know that they can do anythng they want whenver they want and get paid the big bucks they are getting. I know that I do not own anything in Florida and run away from my responsibilitys whenever I want and not answer the ones who are paying my salary. How about that for a thought? When Weisner is gone no one else will answer questions. Vaughn has become silent after what he has done about what is going on. Am I wrong? I guess after Vaughn "leaked" his comment-he is sitting in the background and trying how to make a mess of something else.

I as well have been on openline all day until about 5, haven't seen ANY posts deleted, although I do remember awhile back some anon stated in another subject matter (I will have to research this) that this person had been an loyal blogger here and made a fuss about a deleted post by Openline. I stated to this person that they MAY have accidently removed their posting seeing as you can do that. Could this just be the same person trying to rile the crowd? I felt a Deja Vu comming when I got back to read this. Yes, we all have opinions and all of us may not agree with them and when Openline came and set the record straight, they apologized. Am wondering if this person (if it is the same) is just trying to see if they (Openline) do keep up with the postings. My point? Many have come around and defended what is happening here and have said some pretty absurd things that had not been deleted. I saw every post in which you were referring to today, not to be rude in any way. There had been many posts supporting things and not, there have been many posts trashing HomeTown (even from people living there) and supporting it. I for one never seen anything deleted from Openline or any other than the one who deleted it. Many supporting the mayor, many not. I am a very skeptial person, but I do believe that this is a place where you CAN state your opinion and it is seen and heard wether people like it or not, and if this is the same person who in an ealier blog matter stated their post was deleted you will not ever change my opinion or wavier my trust in this blog. Openline is somewhere that you can state you opinion even if some don't agree it is public, and isn't run by government to which people are censored to see only, and hear only what Openline believes. They don't ask for money or any support in what they are doing. Keep up the great job openline and everyone in Aurora who is trying to do the right thing. My opinoin is stated like it or not it is mine and its what I feel and it was givin to me by the people who had fought for this country to be free.

Okay back to the subject at hand. This Weisner is something else. Can anyone remember back to when he had his hissy fit over the wi-fi and almost began to cry (really). Or the most recent COW meeting, or the articles in the paper calling alderman kifowit an embarassment, or now his departure from a city meeting without as much as a boo. Again the alderman of this town need to step up to the plate and call him out on this type of stuff. But who has the guts?

Anonymous said...

to annon 8/28 @ 11:28 pm
Evething I am reading right now is on the subject. So far everthing is addressing something that has been posted here.

Anonymous said...

I am surprised that your investigative team has not learned what was behind the mayor's rapid departure. He was dashing off to catch a plane to Disney World. He was on his way to a telecommunications conference at Disney World, Florida. A check of the internet shows that he was listed as a presenter on a panel on Wednesday morning. His subject - Aurora's proposed Wi-Fi network.

Perhaps your investigate team can determine the cost to the taxpayers of this mayoral junket?

Anonymous said...

For Aurora to grow and prosper it needs to have regional, national and even international presence.
Whatever you believe in regards to Wi-FI-Hi or whatever it is. There is nothing wrong with the Mayor making a presentation at a large conference. It can only lead to positive press for this city.

Anonymous said...

I don't think the confernce is going to be a week and a half long. This sounds like a good way to get the taxpayers to pay for his ticket and some of his expenses. I have heard this guy speak, and that the is going to speak at a conference is very scary. I also think it is too early to be speaking about Aurora's wi-fi because we don't even have it yet. Sounds a bit like he's trying to just talk about himself at taxpayers expense.

Yes, I don't give this guy credit because a wolf in sheeps clothing is still a wolf. He does not deserve any respect.

Anonymous said...

Considering that his wife flew down to Florida (First Class) on Thursday prior to T.W. leaving on Tuesday would tend to suggest that this is more then some Wi-Fi thing. If in fact he is going to Disney for some conference then this is propably a good way for the Taxpayers to pay for an extended vacation. What does the Mayor know about Wi-Fi anyway?

Anonymous said...

Man, I wish I had a 100K job that I had no skills for and the ability to fly 1st Class. Unfortunately this shows how out of touch this guy is with most of Aurora's hard-working families. Besides, he really is a terrible public speaker! I'm really afraid what he'll say..........

"We will reduce shootings by 20% and that's connected to WiFi"

Anonymous said...

So what? I mean really. The Mayor leaves a City Council meeting early. You make it sound like he fails to keep a presence out in the community. Have you seen this guy's public appearance schedule? Probably not, as most of your community involvement consists of blasting away ans staring negatively into your screens. He's out there tirelesssly at all kinds of community meetings, picnics, neighborhood clean-ups, etc. And that's on weekends and evenings. Are all of you nutz?

Anonymous said...

The second largest City in the State needs a strong presence at national events. We are fortunate to have the kind of Mayor that can get an invite to speak with the big dogs. If you are so into investigative reporting, maybe you can worm your way into the conventiona and get a read of what the attendees thought of his talk. I'll bet that it was positive for the City, unlike some things.......

Anonymous said...

Getting the invite surely was not because of Tommy's talents. Get real..he doesn't have any, except being the nerd he usually is..

Anonymous said...

He got the invite because of his vision and leadership. You get real.

Anonymous said...

You think he might have a hissy fit and almost cry down there too?

Anonymous said...

Interesting...

The item giving the mayor national visibility is the Wi-Fi, an initiative Wyatt talked about during the mayoral election.

Interesting...

A question for the mayor:

Where's Tony Hilton?

Anonymous said...

The convention was for the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA). Tom was President of the organization back in the late 90's. If you go to their web site (www.natoa.org)you'll see that Tom was a speaker on Broadband issues -- not WiFi. ("Community Networks-Imagine Tomorrow: Where Are We Going In Broadband").

Since you read it you should know that many of us bloggers asked for that to be removed. As openline stated they where doing it in fun but we thought it just wasn't right they deleted it. Everyone makes mistakes and they went with our wishes.

Jason Bourne said...

For 4:43pm, we encourage you to contact us directly about any concerns.

For everyone else, we take on various serious issues here the fishwrap is unwilling to address or government officials do not want discussed, but at the same time, we also try to have fun. We communicated with Bob Shelton and he thought the post was funny. Even though he understood the intent, we decided to remove it because we value ALL of you, even those we disagree with or, like 4:43pm today, wish to take cheap shots at us.

Last, but not least, now that Tom Weisner has finally returned from going AWOL at last week's city council meeting, we encourage him to make sure taxpayers did or do not pay for any portion of his vacation.

How about Roberts Rules. I think the Council has to follow them

Aw, gee, jason bourne doesn't like anyone taking "cheap shots" at openline (the cheap shot kings).

Someone get me a tissue.

What's a matter jason, love to dish it out, but can't take it yourself, even when it's true?

If you thought that post was funny, you have a very sick and demented sense of humor and I would suggest you refrain from it. It was disgusting and uncalled for, nothing else.

Regardless, don't claim for a second you don't delete anything around here. It's a lie (like everything else here), plain and simple and all the explaining in the world after the fact won't alter that.

Anonymous said...

Again the statement about deleteing. State exactly what was deleted. What did it say.

EagleDad said...

There was an entire front-page blog post and a set of about 15-20 comments cracking jokes that one of the aldermen bore a physical resemblance to John Mark Carr, that suspect in the JonBenet Ramsey murder case. It was stupid, moronic, immature and should never ever have been posted, yet it was put up by Openline themselves.

It was deleted without explanation or apology by the people that run this blog about a day later, along with the flood of outraged comments that called them out on it. Apparently they only want to keep things around that don't make them look like idiots, especially when done by their own hands.

EagleDad said...

The title of the post was "Actor-at-Large | Bob Shelton to Play John Mark Karr in Movie Deal?" and had a picture of Alderman Shelton.
In fact, if you use the "Search this blog" feature (on the top-left of the page), and search for the term "Karr" you will see the reference to the post and lead-in although it has been deleted.

The original poster was right, Openline does delete things regularly

EagleDad said...

And it case it too "disappears", here was their lead-in:

"29 Aug 2006 by Openline

Have you e-mailed openline about your complaints? I have e-mailed them about people stating there has been posts deleted and asked them about it. If you notice no one ever mentions about what was deleted when they ask about the ones deleted. I believe the answer they gave me. If you are a posted that has had something deleted then go ahead and post it again. If you do not like their answer you can always post it. I for one, am glad they deleted the one on Bob Shelton and they did post why they did this. I would think that you would be grateful that they do listen to ALL of us. Thank you openline for deleting that!

OpenlineBlog lost their crdibility when they began to invite personal attacks against anyone or anything they don't like. Hey "jason bourne" and "clark kent", grow a pair and step up so we can see who you really are! Your incessant whining is only aggravated by your total lack of any creative insight. Always pointing the blame, never pointing the way. Have you even noticed that half of your blog entries have zero comments? You had the potential to be a force for change in Aurora, but you have wasted that opportunity to become a parody of yourselves. Don't quit your day jobs, fellas, because this blog sucks.

Anonymous said...

EagleDad is proving to be a goon.

Bob Shelton DOES look like the John Karr guy, but if Openline says what everyone at city council has been saying and even Bob Shelton finds funny, you're critical. If they remove the post, your critical.

Openline scooped the fishwrap, activated a community and shed light on corruption and fleecing of taxpayers. They have transformed media, politics and done it creatively.

For the goons who just like to whine, here's an idea. Go hang out at Weisner's house.

Anonymous said...

Hey 8:39:

Your prediction came true.

Anonymous said...

Leroy Keith is a spoiled brat. He's been mooching off taxpayers for so long, he thinks it's his right. He takes credit for everything, but is a failure as an alderman. Raising taxes and wild spending are not accomplishments.

I don't live in the 9th ward, BUT if LeeeRoy is listening, I'll be happy to help anyone who wants to kick his behind in 2009.

Anonymous said...

I do not live their either but know people who do. It just like the rest of the wards. People want change and there are people out there already prepared to take the lead.

You can bet that Peters and Schuler will be history(easily). Kifowit will win by a landslide and Chris's ward is up in the air.

As for those in 2009 they better watch how the current incumbants get decimated. Sounds like tough talk, but it is just a tough educated prediction.

Hope you only realize that this leads you back to being someone who is on the City Council that does not pay attention to the taxpayers. You are either Leroy Keith or Chris B.
