Fleecing of Aurora | Fox Valley Park District Attempt to Exploit Aurora Taxpayers Costs Hundreds of Thousands; BGI Committee Responds

The Fox Valley Park District (FVPD) has a serious and gross misunderstanding.

With all their tax increases and mismanagement under the Bob Vaughan regime, they figured the open checkbook policy under the Weisner-Vaughan administration for the City of Aurora meant unlimited open access to exploiting taxpayers.

After all, if Weisner cronies like Wegman, Cordogan, Mundy or the Shodeen "hole in the ground" project can suck millions of your taxdollars, why not the Fox Valley Park District, that has various cronies and "friends" of Weisner that have worked or are part of them, including current board of trustees like Theodia Gillespie (who just got thousands of city taxdollars for her investment property) or Linda Cole (who is on the Zoning Board of Appeals hearing the matter of the Planned Parenthood controversy).

The City of Aurora is installing a fiber-optic network and ran into a little obstacle with the Fox Valley Park District. They needed to put some cables underground across a path that belongs to the FVPD.

The city offered to let the FVPD get "free unlimited access" to the network in exchange for cooperation of letting the simple cables be placed underground. Seems fair to us.

Instead, the FVPD, apparently in the spirit of taxpayer exploitation, said they would take the free access PLUS they would require city taxpayers to share 25% of all future revenue generated by the network.

For installing some cable under a path?

The city can't give away 25% of its revenue since it needs every penny to pay for the Shodeen fiasco and other wildly important goofs by Weisner, so it's forced to go around the path at a cost of $287,000.

Thanks Fox Valley Park District...we will keep that in mind when you ask for another tax increase referendum.

However, the BGI (Building, Grounds and Infrastructure) Committee doesn't think this taxpayer exploitation by the FVPD is appropriate.

Since the work is necessary to finish the network, Acting BGI Chairman Rick Lawrence, Alderman Lynda Elmore and Alderman Richard Irvin voted unanimously on an amendment that would require that if the FVPD ever wants access to the network in the future, they be required to pay full price, full fees and full cost and not be entitled to any discount.

We strongly agree with the BGI Committee's action to protect taxpayers considering the FVPD had an opportunity to have FREE access, but they got greedy.

Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner and his old-guard buddies at the FVPD need to understand Aurora taxpayers are not an open blank checkbook.

The Fox Valley Park District isn't going to get one cent from this family for anymore fat constuction deals. Blackberry Farm is just fine. We over spent on the Vaughan Center and allow out of towners to both our pools, blackberry farm, and Vaughan Center for a steal of a deal considering they DIDNOT pay for it in the first place. If I lived in Sugar Grove and felt like taking my kids and the neighborhood swimming I'd drive to the pool on the westside of Aurora and pay a visitor fee load the pool with out of towners who don't have to build their own facillity cuz the people of Aurora built this one! I've sent my kids (aurora Kids) to the pool only to be turned away cuz it's overcrowded! And they want me to buy a season pass? I can't afford the Vaughan center and I wonder how many families can. I bought a season pass to Balckberry farms for years until I found out ANYONE could buy it from the Radio Shopping show for Less!!!!! Are you kidding me. DON"T ASK THIS FAMILY FOR MORE MONEY!

Why is someone like Theodia Gillespie on the board of the FVPD? She's one of Tommy's best friends. Is that why?

I have an idea, lets get a hold of that company in st louis that puts togeather all the slick paper brochures telling of the wonders of the park dist the school district and the library district and then lets put some signs in our front yards that tell the politicians that we love to have our taxes raised if its all for the children...sap suckers one and all.

The Park District fired all the old staff and replaced them with out of towners and with no experince to the community needs.

The programs fees have all been raised. Deals for there Lori Hoffman friends to help run leagues and then they lose clients due to the mismanagement. Soccer fields are not needed since they are not programed and only certain groups are allowed to use them. More mismangemnet.

There is so much wrong doing in Aurora you wouldn't believe it! People like Theodia Gillespie is not for the people of Aurora Unless you are her friend and go to her church! I know someone who worked with her who knows how dirty and cut throat she is! Here's an instance Quad County Urban League had an AWDAP program and I applied for it but never got placed but the WIFE AND DAUGHTER of the Pastor of Main Baptist did, several relatives of workers did and several of Theodias St James Family members members did also! Where is the fairness of that!
