Rev. Jeremiah Wright has obviously ignited some "controversy" for our local political rockstar Barack Obama.
Take a look below, BUT rather than focusing on him or his relationship with Obama, what about the content of the comments itself?
What do you agree or disagree with about the comments?

I have lived in 5 states. I've been here for just over one year and all I can say is that this state of Illinois (and city of Aurora) has to be the most crooked and corrupt of all. I for one would never vote for an Illinois President. This place is messed. Small minds with a small world view. It is no surprise that the Rev. comes from the south side...it has always been a pit of ignorance and intolerance. Cut the cord already!

Right on...
out of thousands of speeches and sermons, you can't judge by sound bites.
i just got done watching some of what falwell and others of his kind have said in sermons. just as appalling, if not more so.
Nice try 11:11,
Never have they who you mentioned spoken so hatefully about the USA. You are a clouded mind who has been fooled by the progressive dems. All progressive dems are communists, no way around it. Read, read, read.
Thanks for the Socratic guidance Openline...I don't think it will take. There is no way to agree, on a national level, with the Revs statements. Though, as an aside, or in a drunken frenzy it might be allowed. The problem is, is that these videos are sold by the church as the "Best of Rev. Wright" This shows the true beliefs of the patrons. Never forget, one of those patrons for 20 years has been Barack Hussein Obama and his America hating wife. Never will this man be the President of the United States of America. Keep it real.
I agree with some of the rev's statements and disagree with some of them. I think he said it in an inflammatory manner, but some of the comments are shared by lots of people.
The Revs statements may be shared by many or a few...but none of his statements should be held by a President of the United States of America. No way Obama.
Both Obama and Wright would have us believe that the attack on Wright is about race. It is true that there is enough racial issues on both sides of that fence to choke a horse. But race in this instance is a red herring.
In my opinion, the issue is the atmosphere and statements of hatred toward this country. Can we allow a person that participates in such an atmosphere of hatred toward this country to be president?
Both of the Obama’s have received the benefits of this nation to an extent that most people can only dream about, but yet Mrs. Obama has the gall to say that she is just now for the first time in her life proud to be an American.
We can debate the questions of race and improper acts by the UNITED STATES till the cows come home, but the question remains, do you want a president of this country to be a person that participates in the atmosphere of hatred as illustrated by Wright?
Thank god in America we have the right to freedom of speech. Now we know where the line is drawn and those that hate America have exposed themselves.
Now I understand Michelle Obama’s statement on February 18:
“For the First Time in My Adult Lifetime, I Am Really Proud of My Country”
The only thing that makes her proud is her husband being a candidate for President?
Wow!
This is the nail in the coffin for Obama's candidacy. I cannot say I agree with it, but he will never be able to overcome this with the majority of American people.
It is now clear that a huge division exists in this country and there should be serious dialogue about this subject. But not in the White House. The people have to resolve this not a President.
Obama speech was a lie. How can he say he never heard of this speech from his church, while all along those clips were taken from a Church DVD? Also, whats really ironic is that if Rev. Wright calls himself to be a pastor, then he better read that book that has dust on his it thats called the Bible and read what Jesus said that the GREATEST commandement in the Bible is to "Love the Lord your GOD with all your heart soul and mind and second is just as great as the first, Love your neighbor as yourself" Also, Mr. Wright Needs to know that Jesus is Jewish and all the disciples were Jewish and 100% of his Bible is Jewish and Too NOT support the State of Isreal is a Slap in GODS face.
You're hilarious. If we had a black president, it would be clear that there has been progress towards resolution.
The worst thing about this issue isn't what the Rev. is saying, but that it gives legitimacy to the beliefs a lot of closet racists hold. I can see it on here already.
Obmama, a deer in the headlites. No more gazing whistfully at some far a way TV camera and calling for change. No more pretty words saying nothing. Now we know where he was going with the change. A true FLIM FLAM MAN exposed by his own super intellegnce.
Oh jeez.
Here's the "America will fall if we don't support Israel" spiel that I heard almost every Sunday for my entire youth.
Unfortunately for Israel, fewer and fewer Americans believe in blind support for their country, without questioning their policies, etc.
If a white pastor was spitting out the crap coming from this Jeremiah’s dirty mouth, it would have been a revolution. It is such a double standard among the blacks it just makes me sick. Where's Jackson and Sharpton on this issue like they were all over on the Imus statement? If Obama was even close to being worthy of becoming our new President, he simply would have disowned this filthy pastor 20 years ago. I just know one thing for certain, if Obama wins, I am voting for McCain. That’s it.
Well, I really doubt he expected support from someone like you anyway.
Or wants it.
Hillary is gaining the lead more and more everyday. Just goes to show the smarter dems are changing their minds and aren't voting for crap.
The UCC church isn't Christian. They put 'social issues' Gay rights, socialist politics, women's issues over biblical truth. While some of the issues they stand for have a biblical base others most certainly do not. The UCC is only a baby step to the right of Unitarian.
Rev.WRONG is the poster child for what the UCC and more specifically his church stands for.
Obama is out and out lying when he says this rhetoric is not part and parcel of what these leftist adhere to.
Even the liberal mother of all herself Oprah had half a brain and left this church years ago to because even she knew how nutz they are and was afraid to be found out as to just how far left her beliefs really are.
This all should show us just how far left Obama and his base and his associates truly are.
They are racist, hypocrits who do not deserve to even be in the race let alone worshiped as some sort of second coming.
Obama has no experience, & no record which should scare you.
And his 'Change' mantra what does change mean OBAMA? Has no meaning.
Obama is evil america watch out, you have been warned.
All the pieces are fitting togather here...

Seem like you need to go back to church!
Leonard is correct: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE!
"Rev." Wright is just an outspoken Democrat. That's all. He's simply saying out loud those anti-Americanisms that all the Starbucks sucking "progressives" are muttering under their elitist breaths.
MICHAEL RICHARDS FOR PRESIDENT !!!!!
This is another trick to try and divide the black community. Thank you Obama for holding it down and standing strong. Thank you for not condemning Rev Wright to not put a smile on the white man's face. Why haven't anyone questioned Bush who is best friends with Bin Ladin's family members? Shouldn't the other candidates speak on race issues. Why should black people always have to explain ourselves when it comes to race? We did not start this racism problem in America. Remember we are the ones who were oppressed and still have to educate white people on how not to discriminate and be compassionate people. We are still teaching them today.
yea, ahh thanks alot, just two quick things, the reperations for slavery check is in the mail and do you think you could pay us typical white people back for the three or four generations that have soaked us for welfare! and it will be a cold day when your wonderful hate filled racist president wannabe gets elected. He had half a shot until america (not white or black) america saw for themselves what a power mad two faced racist sob he really is. Why is his wifes paper at princeton not released until november 5th, i will tell you why because it makes wrights speach sound like a love fest. No heres what you need to do, get off that cross you have been hanging on, use the wood to build a bridge and get over it, buy the way send that check as soon as you can Ok? all hail john mcain the new president of the united states!
yo i have a big smile on my face stick a fork in him he's done! I hope that shoe tasted good, bye bye barack it was so good not to know you!
Obama shouldn't distance himself from Wright. The guy is entitled to his opinion, isn't he?
Leonard, I went to a city council meeting once in Aurora and the mayor and his cronies were spending money like wildfire so should everyone in the room be condemned for participating in that?
Besides being a candidate for President what has Obama done for Illinois? I have lived here all my life and can't think of one thing which doesn't make him qualified for President.
I totally understand Michelle Obama’s “For the First Time in My Adult Lifetime, I Am Really Proud of My Country” statement now. It didn't make sense then, but it does now. I'm sure they both feel the same way now that he is a presidential candidate.
7:59 PM – Don’t you mean to say, “I have spent 17 years in the city council chambers” rather than once?
And, yes, if you, or Leonard, were not critical, and denounce the out-of-hand wasteful spending of this administration, then you should be held accountable for your silence.
So what’s your point?
10:10 PM
I have lived here all my life and can't think of one thing which doesn't make him qualified for President.
What you should be saying is, “I have lived here all my life and can’t think of one decent thing Obama has done for the Illinois citizen while he was in the Senate. This is why he is unqualified to be President.”
I just read in the beacon that weisner wants to survey the citizens about the city's public safety departments, but refuses to listen to recommendations from the professionals that work for him. He continues to deny the fire departments request to add a additional ambulance. And weisner continues to put off the design and construction of a fire station in the far north east part of town. Naperville (pop. 140,000+) is commited to building there 10th fire station to minimize response times. Aurora (pop. 170,000+)meanwhile should have at least two more fire stations to keep response times low on the far eastside, but weisner would rather spend a million dollars on mcCrapy park that is a hangout for the homeless.
TO LEONARD;
You speak about endorsing or supporting someone who spews anger and hatred, but I saw an Oberweis sign in your yard.
You speak with forked tongue.
PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN ? We took the land from the natives, we used slave labor to develop it and now we can't even afford to live here.
What's to be proud of?
A true patriot is one who want's the best for the nation. Status quo doesn't cut it.
To change anything, you first have to renounce it.
How long have you been in this democracy and not understood that?
Well, 4:25 I do attend church.
Just not one that blindly accepts everything in the Bible as literal. And certainly not one that is in line with the Falwells and Van Impes of the far right. I can't help but think that their venomous fear and hate mongering rants sadden the Almighty.
And 7:22, McCain will not win the election, because Republicans like my immediate family will not vote for him. They will sit this one out, rather than
indicate that a "moderate" is acceptable to them.
I completely disagree with your statement regarding hard-line republicans not voting for McCain, “since he has moderate views.”
In November, hard-line republicans will have three choices: vote republican; vote democratic; or not vote at all (which is the same as voting for some other 3rd party candidate at this point.)
The decision which they will really be making is whether or not they believe that this nation can withstand a four year presidency of a liberal nut-job! If they determine that we can, then they will roll the dice and stay home as you have suggested. Otherwise, they will endorse their party’s candidate on the belief that McCain will serve the nation better than the other democratic candidate (whoever that will be). Given these choices, I contend that when push comes to shove, the republicans will back McCain in large numbers based on fear of what either democratic candidate would do with our nation in just four years.
When I heard Rev Wright's speech, all I could think was that what he said was right. Obama’s speech is what I’ve been feeling about America for a long time. Race, sexism, anti-gay talk is used to divide us blacks and it helps Wall Street and the richest 1% of white Americans screw all of us blacks with prisons, bad schools, bad loans, high gas and outsource our jobs. I support Obama because he told us that we can continue to be allowed to be divided and screwed or we can take responsibility and demand a better government that serves the people and not just the whites. Obama gave the message that now is the time to unite because this country is in serious trouble.
Oh yeah there still is slavery except the American white elite moved it to China and the third world.
Obama 2008
Well, from what I'm hearing, they think they need to punish the party for veering 'off course'. This is just my family, mind you, but we're talking about three branches, three large churches and apparently, others in these congregations that agree with them. Staying home, or skipping that part of the ballot is their vote.
I'm primarily a Democrat, but I could live with McCain, which is probably an indication of how distasteful my family probably finds him!
I'd also like to point out, that regardless of the brouhaha over Obama's minister's comments, members of my family grudgingly concedes that Obama is probably the most legitimate christian out of the three candidates. What that will mean at the polls, I'm not really sure.
Go Obama!! End Racism!!
Say NO to Obama!! End Racism!!
3/21/08 11:00
I think that there was plenty to go around with all of the candidates. I was not very fond of the mailers used by any of the candidates.
One thing is for sure I was and remain public about where my support was going, where are you?
My comment above has to do with whether or not the people of this nation want to have a president that is a member of a group that hates this nation, I do not care if it is someone from Wright's congregation, the Ku Klux Klan or the Irish Republic Army.
I, for one, do not want a president that hates this nation or comes from a back ground of such hatred.
Your comment is nothing more than a red herring again. It has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. Oberweis, to my knowledge, does not hat this nation and does not come from a background of such hatred.
Can that minister say a prayor so that captain groom does not shoot his foot again.
End Racism?? Are you kidding me. As long as we have pastors like Wright preaching hate, it will never die.
It's no wonder Obama doesn't wear a lapel American flag or places his hand over his heart or says the pledge of Alligence. It's no wonder his wife wrote a hate paper in college and claims she was not proud of America. It's no wonder blacks are filled with anger. They will never, I say never, get over the slavery issue when black pastors constantly remind them what devils the whites are. They don't go to church to worship GOD, they go to get their anger and hate batteries recharged.
Leonard, why do you contradict yourself? First you said, "I do not care if it is someone from Wright's congregation, the Ku Klux Klan or the Irish Republic Army."
Then you say, "I, for one, do not want a president that hates this nation or comes from a background of such hatred."
Make up your mind flip-flopper.
If you will notice in the picture where Obama is not "placing his hand over his heart" when saying the pledge to the flag, the flag was behind him. If you really think he would turn his back to the flag while running for president you are a fool.
He's not stupid. The picture is not about that.
To the racist who has lived in 5 states:
Since you have come to Illinois to live, you must be one of the crooked Illinoisans.
3:51 PM – Please re-read Leonard remarks once again. He was clearly stating a person’s background is irrelevant IF that person holds their nation in the highest regards.
Sadly, Obama is not proud of America; nor is his wife.
i'd have to believe that if obama was ever in the rev's church he's heard his retoric and knows full well the cut of of his cloth. OBama decided to attend that church and has been living in that mans spiritual house for 20 years. So Don't insult our intelligence with backpeddling. I don't know what irks me more obama's denial, therev's sudden silence or the quiet in jess's corner.
3/21/08 3:51 PM
You need to learn to read and understand the English language as written and spoken in this country.
The phrase that you have taken out of context refers to the prior phrase and only the prior phrase. The point is that I do not care from which group the person who hates this nation or participates in such an atmosphere of hatred comes from, he is not presidential material to me.
The flip flopping noise you heard was between your own ears. You can vote for a hater of this country if you want to but I will not.
Obama and his wife have benefited from what this nation has to offer more than most people can imagine and for both of them to take such a position is ludicrous, offensive and insulting to the decent people of this country. They are living a huge part of the American dream and they bite the hand that feeds them. So how smart is this man?
I think this story is not even newsworthy. Wright isn't running for office. The news cycle has been slow lately, so they came up with this to talk about.
Leonard, your original message did appear to be contradictory but with that said, who cares. It was your reply that was hateful...just like the same people you claim you wouldn't vote for. Now that was contradictory. And show some class.
Leonard,
Yes Mr. & Mrs Obama have have a good life here in America. That's what makes their restlessness all the more commendable.
He isn"t unhappy with his life, he cares for "the least" of his bretheren.
Does your patriotism extend beyond your lot line?
The problem with America is Americans.
Most have not read the Constitution or if they had they don't like it.
There was a door to door poll that showed asked people to sign the constitution if they were in favor of it (not knowing that it was the constitution) and most said no, they wouldn't sign such a commie socialist document.
Tells you what your neighbors are like. DUMB !!!
If you think Americans are smart, then why do they continue to elect evil dorks?
What happened to Wright? He disappeared like a fart in a wind storm. He retired rather suddenly too, didn't he?
Many of us have come from underprivledged backgrounds and have been successful just like Obama. The problem with most people who come from this background is that they want everything handed to them. It just does not happen that way, be we American Caucasion, American-African, American-Latino, American-Asian, etc. Everyone should be proud of their heritage, but do not use it as an excuse for their cicumstances.
3/22/08 11:16
If you consider my reply hateful then I can only imagine the outrage you must have for Wright for the hateful environment created by him and the Obama's 20 plus year participation in that hateful environment.
I don't think you have to blindly be "proud" of America 24/7 to be a candidate for President. I'm not proud of this country right now, but that doesn't mean I don't love it.
I'm always surprised by people that think because something is "American" that it is automatically superior to anything else in the world. I think we should be a little less arrogant and a little more willing to learn from others.

America need less pride and more repentance.
The week that America invaded Iraq, my pastor gave a pro-war sermon. He said that we have to "use the sword in love."
I am and have been against the war in Iraq, but am still a member of that church. The pastor is gone.
If there is corruption at the municipal level (like we KNOW there is) then why would a greater amount of corruption not take place with our Fed govt? I dont see anything wrong with his statements, they can be backed by historical facts.
Stop being naive; Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright did Barack Obama a favor by giving him reason to denounce him. There is no way a man of God who is against supremacy (white) of which Jesus is clearly against and a man who is against empire building which Jesus is clearly against could enter the white house as a friend of the president of the United States when the presidency and the white house are both symbolic of both white supremacy and empire building, both which are very demonic ventures. The hope is that President Barack Obama will not push either of these agendas. That would be a change America has longed for after 43 white men (presidents) who condoned the genocide of the Native America, enslaved Millions of Africans, and imprisoned Japanese right here on American soil. People wake up--
