Reaction to Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner's Wildly Important Goals for 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Being Ripped By Failure

Viewer Reaction to Weisner's Wildly Important Goals 1:23

Most people, no matter what age, seem to have the same reaction to Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner's experiment with "Wildly Important Goals" (WIG's) which has been a wildly waste of time and resources.

As the 2008 Wildly Important Goals already have already begun to crash, a source close to Weisner confirmed he wants to combine 2008 and 2009 goals so next year he can try to avoid discussion of his failure at the same time of the mayoral election.

Nobody is fooled, of course. Weisner's WIG's have failed along with his experiment of being mayor, but make no mistake. The true Wildly Important Goal ofAurora for 2008 and 2009 should be to eliminate Tom Weisner's exploitation of the people of Aurora.

So, let me get the straight, this year the city’s WIG is to complete 95 million in economic development. Last year the city had a goal in the 80 million range; and only completed 21.3 million. So the “leadership” has upped this goal the following year. Ha. Now I see why we have the laughing baby here. This administration is a joke. Let’s fail miserably at something, and then raise the goal for next year. Yeah, that will improve morale. I guess the administration in city hall has never heard of the SMART system.

SMART goals:
S = Specific
M = Measurable
A = Attainable
R = Realistic
T = Timely

A goal needs to stretch you slightly so you feel you can do it and it will need a real commitment from you. The feeling of success which this SMART system brings helps you to remain motivated.

The way they are going this, there will be no commitment and no motivation. (Sounds a lot like the Police Contract!)

As much as it would appear that the WIG’s have not been very well thought out these last two years by virtue of some of the WIG’s arising out of things and events that not a living sole has any control over, let me posit an alternative idea to the belief that this WIG will also fail.

You will notice that the definition or basis for counting the monetary value of development into that number is changing this year. There must be some reason that change.

I suggest to you that it is quite possible there is already discussions in place with representatives of developments which will meet or exceed the $95 million. Thus this administration knows in advance that the goal will be met. It is possible that this goal includes not only new development but development that was put on hold from last year and is now carrying over.

The point is that the mayor cannot go into an election cycle with that WIG not met.

I may be wrong about the above idea but one should never assume that the opponent is stupid, conniving yes but stupid no.

Ask any city employee who had to go to the training...It was a waste of time, waste of money, and it does not work....

I am certain that the re-election commitee and the Beacon staff will have a get together soon to discuss how to make it look like the WIG's have been met. One hand washes the other.

Another remarkable post from the Lawrence camp. You guys are brilliant. Keep it up.

Ok Openline, we all know that Weisner is a lousy mayor.
We get it.

Maybe we can start measuring another set of WIGs....the Wildly Inventive Gossip of this silly blog

Anonymous said...

Wow, 95 million huh? That's going to be one hell of a tatoo parlor.

Anonymous said...

This is such nonsense. It is great to have goals, but what are the WIGS outlined for this and the past two years going to do for the school districts in this city that are an embarassment? How are they going to promote better development (commercial and residential)? How are they going to make my neighborhood safer and not such a damn pig-pen? How are they going to get the eight cars that are parked every day all over the neighborhood by the same group of ten people that have overun a house built for four? It is just all a bunch of political nonsense.

Of course the mayor has heard about the SMART System.

He probably promised the implementation during his previous campaign, just like he promised Six Sigma and… other things

But I’m going ahead of myself, I should leave all that for debates.

Damage control is in progress (By Weisner, O'Conner, Shodeen and others).

To those that think Shodeen can just sell off this project to whoever he wants is mistaken (The council has to approve the buyer); but he can find a front company and defuse the situation by having the council revote in another development company with this is a one day offer or they'll walk! Remember that tactic? If this would happen Shodeen would then be able to run the deal from behind closed doors with Weisnor and O'Conner. The Shodeen controvercy would be defused and we'd get the same problems.

People, they made enough mistakes to have the Shodeen deal overturned (Legally)!

Does anyone believe that out of the blue the system went down on the day of the most important notice to the public (Remember a vote like this has to be posted 48 hours in advance?). Don't you think that if that actually happened the entire process would have been postponed until it was corrected? (Where was the crack pot legal staff then?)

Does anyone believe that just maybe the Attorney Generals office and States Attorneys office just might "MAYBE" be putting a case together and laying in wait to see what the next numb nut move those involved are doing to to cover up their mistakes (I thinks it's called building a case!)

We need Two: "Request for Proposals"

1. Rid the city of Shodeen
2. " " Weisnor
3. Rid the city of Jail Bird Jim Meisch's best friend and partner in crime Robert O'Conner!

Then use the cities power of emient Domain and aquire the entire site and THEN put out a "Request for Proposals" with proper time for a REAL development company to prepare and sudmit their ideas and cost and analysis of the deal.

One last idea. Why not let the people of Aurora decide by a speacil vote, cost is minimal compared to what were going to lose now!

By the way I come in Anonymous so as to keep the focus on the issues and not let those that whould love to redirect my opinins at me, not those in hiding!

There is one big problem with your proposal.

IT MAKES GOOD SENSE!

Anonymous said...

I agree with these goals. They are just political ways to try and make the Mayor look good. Making a reduction in red light violations after RedFlex signs the deal; doesn't quite make sense. The people of Aurora are smarter than Weisner thinks they are and they are ready to vote this looser out.

I'm just glad they got free WiFi on the west side. Forget about the rest of the city; Weisner got it for his house and that's all that matters.

Anonymous said...

WIFI is a myth. I live on the west side, within 6 blocks of downtown and cannot get it. Where is it?

Anonymous said...

Either you are wron or the Beacon News is wrong.

Crime goes down 6% in Aurora, the lowes since 1985.

Humm...

Anonymous said...

Crime in Aurora down 6.5 percent and at its lowest in 22 years....per article in the Beacon....Yet..Weisner refuses to give Police a fair contract....

Anonymous said...

Crime is down all over the country. Aurora is in line with the national trend.

City leaders and Beacon headline that crime is down in Aurora, but the story says that violent crime is up. They claim success because property crime is down, but are we truly safer if violent crime is up.

Last year the Police WIG was to reduce shootings in Aurora -- Shootings are up.

You can list all the statistics that you can find -- However Auroran's do not feel safer.

How people feel is the true test - not statistics.

Anonymous said...

Crime is up in my neighborhood.

That is all I can say. We have a known gang banger on my block dealing drugs & guns. He has had his SUV which coast 1/2 as much as my house shot at twice and firebombed!

Where the heck are the cops??? We had a great cops officer and now because of the stupid ass politics in the police force we get a guy who don't do much.

I am all for getting the cops a new contract. But lets tie it to living in town and really making the city safe. If you get results you get a big fat raise.

Also, lets get rid of this mayor and his fake stats that show how wonderful the city is when we all know the truth.

Heck if the city is so safe and wonderful then the police deserve a big raise. Get off you ass an sign the contract already Mr. Mayor.

Anonymous said...

Since it is getting time to vote for Mayor again, do you think weisner will now give the police a contract?

Anonymous said...

A Mayor running for re-election trying to spin statistics in his favor with the help of the local paper. Wonderful. Violent crime is up in already violent city.

I thought the same thing after I read the story. Here we have violent crimes and murder up and the mayor somehow overlooks that and says Aurora is safer.
I like the Beacon but on this one they do seem to be a little slippery with what the statistics mean for Aurora.

Anonymous said...

By MATT HANLEY mhanley@scn1.com
"According to statistics officially released today, 5,377 major crimes were reported in Aurora last year."

That's 15 major crimes per day.
I feel safe. Don't you?

Anonymous said...

The beacon didn't make me feel safer. Violent crime is a serious issue; and to just adjust the statistics to make things look better for the Mayor just is not right.

Another fluff story for the Mayor by the Beacon.

Does this number include domestic battery also? I find the 5000 number hard to believe.

Just over fourty years ago, I started on the force, and at that time Fransworth to the East and Edgelawn to the West were the City limits.

I can remember having one car East, one West and one down town. You might not beleive this but you are much safer today than at any time in the past.

The Officers today are much better trained, equiped, and staffed than at any previouse time.

These Officer are doing a fantastic job even being understaffed (which cost money), and if you would compare the calls for service back then to today you would have to agree that with the city tripleing in size you are much safer today than at any time in the history of Aurora.

There is no street, neighborhoood that I would be afraid to drive though.Aurora is a great city (I do live here) and we have a Fire Department that is second to none, and a Police Department that is out there.

I remember when the desk Officer at the P.D. would jump in the ambulance and take the call, you now have trained paramedics fully equiped ambulances.Call 911 now and and ask for help as compared to the past.(911 did not exist when I started).

Lets give the Mayor's, Police Chief's, Fire Chief's, present and past some respect for what we have today, One heck of a City.

Sgt. R. (Retired).

Thank god for the new building, Lets work together and make this a great City to work in and Live in.

How about moth-balling the new (Police) Palace and hire new officer's?

Anonymous said...

The old station needs to be torn down, and I hope that the place a plaque on the grounds in memory of the many fine Officer that worked there.

The new station is there for the future of all citizens of Aurora and will house Investigation, Evidense tech's,Juvenile and the court house.

These Officer are the ones who follow up on each crime reported and they need the best we can give them.

Look at the cold case job these Officers are doing and think what they can do in the future with better equipment.

CRIME IS DOWN 6%!!!!

I received this news from a reliable source that the 95 million is for a super-block development.

It will contain a Laundromat, loser drunk bar, tattoo parlor, gang-banger hang out, taco stand and a car customizing shop. The customizing shop is very exciting as it will feature huge tailpipes, airplane wings for the trunk and oversized ghetto rims. The mother Mary decal for the back window will be the finishing touch for the whole look.

Dear Tom J. Weisner,

Here's a wildly important goal for today, the rest of 2008 and until you are kicked out of office.

Stop wasting our money.

Thanks,

With all do respect to you and your service and our fine men in women who are our first responders.

This building is not about function or need. It is all about cronyism and the illegal pay to play that the mayor and his partners in crime undertake and the cost to you and I the taxpayer.

Our Cops and Firemen do deserve the best, However, we should never forget about the fiscal responsibility of the elected official.

Recently i had to get a new battery for my car. I had a choice of dozens. I asked the sales guy to show me the best he did and it had a cost of nearly $500 bucks. I also asked him to show me some of the most popular as well as his recommendations.

He did on the cheap end I could have paid as little as $79 for a cheap off brand with lower performance numbers.

All of this to say I had choices. I ended up spending in the low $100's range. For a name brain with high performance numbers ratings etc. WOuld I have like the $500 battery? Sure but for nominal performance bump the price was just to much. Would I have like to only spend $79 ? Sure but for an off brain with nominal numbers I did want to get stuck just out of the warranty in the middle of winter with a dead battery.

The point yes we need a new police station but do we need to spend the cash we are spending on type of station we are building. Absolutely not.

Don't get me wrong I am very pro first responder but not at any cost. I am very pro education but not at any cost. I like well paved streets and good garbage service but not at any cost.

We need responsible fiscal leadership and this mayor and sad to say most of the city council is very far from that.

Just a thought.

I work for the city and we laugh at these idiotic WIG's, too!

The old saying is that if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem.

Chief of Police William Powell is about to retire, so those of you who think they know all the answers, please come forward and submit you resume.

The mayor's office has not yet announced a replacement so if you know all the answers, can run a 300+ Police Department. cure the city whoes, stop violance, stop burglaries thefts and general crime then please come forward.

This blog which I have stated in the past is there to bring problems to your attention and hopefully you would submit what you think is a solution. The powers to be then on reading all of the solution would then formulate hopefully a solution.

It seem that most of the writers to this blog only complain and bring down the ones who would bring change to this City, with the feedback needed from the community.

Only with the community working together can we bring about the change needed.

Notice that I never used the word Nit-Wit, to discribe any commenter to this blog, there was once a responder who said that he had been called worse by better. Believe me, worse yes, better No.

per Webster dictionary

nit-wit : a scatterbrained or stupid person

I think that accurately applies to a large percentage of these comments. Don't you?

How about $80 million dollars in new officers; istead of a new PoliceStation that even Pawel didn't want!
