Election 2009 | Kifowit Mayoral Campaign Supporters Missing-in-Action; Consecutive Events Draw Empty Crowds

Despite aggressive publicity, Kifowit's January
fundraiser was missing supporters and voters.

Aurora Mayoral candidate and Third Ward Alderman Stephanie Kifowit has been aggressively campaigning at events throughout Aurora since early 2008, but as the April 2009 election draws closer, it appears the public has been a "no-show" in response to her candidacy.

Her main platform of changing the form of city government to a city manager hasn't resulted in any action from her whatsoever, which requires a referendum to actually change.

On January 7th, viewers reported her highly-publicized fundraiser at the Gaslite Manor was a "bust" and the above photo taken during the middle of her event demonstrates the dismal crowd.

With just 18 vehicles, most of those were Kifowit's personal and family vehicles along with the staff of the Gaslite Manor. Only a few supporters showed up to her major fundraiser.

Kifowit told people later the event and turnout was good and then sent an email to her supporters saying:

"It was a good event and the food was great...our campaign is going full steam ahead."

Clearly, the fundraiser was a bust and the campaign was not gaining any steam, but to give Kifowit the benefit of any doubt, we decided to wait and see how she would do with a FREE event, the grand opening of her campaign office on Thursday on the near west side of Aurora.

Even with lots of FREE publicity, offers of FREE refreshments, FREE gift bags and even FREE wifi, the turnout was even more dismal:

Kifowit's grand opening drew another empty crowd.
7 vehicles, including her own, staff and volunteers.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Unfortunately for Alderman Kifowit, at the rate things are going, she will end up with more words than voters.

She clearly is not gaining any ground. I don't hear her saying anything. She is going to have to start doing something if she wants to get 5 % of the vote now.

So True.
Good Line

Hey I want to hear more from this Garcia chick. Who is she? I like what I hear so far.

Anonymous said...

Wow, Openline what investigative reporting. During the fundraiser it was a blizzard and last night was a deep freeze. I'm impressed even someone showed up last night.

Anonymous said...

Another Kifowit slam -- what was taking you so long? That's all your focusing on, not news.

Anonymous said...

It is quite obvious from the biased slant to this story and the premeditated photographs that openline is supporting another candidate and purposely trying to hurt the Kifowit campaign.I didn't go to the funder but I was at the office openhouse and I was surprised to see so many people there. They continued to arrive while I was there and more were arriving as I left. One reason I was surprised was that it was 20 below zero and people felt strongly enough about her campaign to come out in that weather. The real purpose of this blog is to spread propaganda not to truthfully inform.

Anonymous said...

Kifowit is a Joke!!!! I went out and picked up a pizza last night so don't blame the weather on her poor show. People will be in zero degree weather in D.C. this weekend supporting the new guy. Face it, she has nothing to offer and people are not listening.

Anonymous said...

Who is Kifowit? Is she running for some office?

Anonymous said...

Bid deal on the photo work. get me a shot of her big fat ass getting out of the shower and i will give you some credit.

Anonymous said...

Of course, it is better to have streams of city contractors and developers pile into a union hall to kiss ass to "his honor" Weisner and shell out thousands. That's the kind of City we are and will continue to be. Right Openline? Bring in the ring kissers because we all know that you are sucking up to Weisner now.

Anonymous said...

I second 10:26! This Garcia chick is a hottie and apparently has a clue regarding the city’s reckless spending. While Kifowit does?????

Anonymous said...

Given that all three candidates for Mayor suck … what exactly has Kifowit accomplished other than getting elected twice? Her platform is simple and a joke. Didn’t she vote for each of the past budgets that she now states are creating financial instability? Regarding neighborhood redevelopment … what true improvements has she accomplished for her ward through her leadership? And economic development … advocate alternative methods of financing such as? Now’s the time for specifics but yet there are none. At her best Kifowit is just a hack.

Anonymous said...

It's so strange that Lawrence and Wesiner have teamed up, and now we see posts like this.

My theroy ? Weisner gets elected, quits (health reasons) and appoints Slick Rick.

Does ANYONE else see this coming. It's as blatant as it is cold outside.

Anonymous said...

Pretty clear Kifowit is NOT getting support. Believe me, if Tom Weisner or Rick Lawrence had a fundraiser, it would have been packed.

Anonymous said...

I got invited to Kifowit's fundraiser and didn't go because I thought it would be a complete waste of time and money, but I don't know anyone that was going to it either.

Anonymous said...

Why doesn't Kifowitz say how many people showed up to her event? 10? 12? 8? It's obvious from the photos there was a very sparse crowd and there was blizzard that night.

Anonymous said...

From the picture it does not look like a blizzard to me. It's not snowing and it looks like about a 1/2" on the ground. Try another excuse K supporter. Your ideas are about as good as Kifowit's, idiotic.
Maybe her City Manager could raise some money for her. Why would anyone risk their money or repretation on someone that can not motivate 20 people.

Anonymous said...

Kifowit's email quote says she had a good event. That wasn't true. She lied.

Anonymous said...

Stick a fork in her. She all done.

Anonymous said...

In defense of Kiffy, I have to say just because you only see a handful of supporter's cars is because she transports supporters differently.

See, Kiffy use holograms, yes just like Star Trek. That's why even though there's hardly cars in the parking lot, the place was packed in her mind!

Anonymous said...

Hey, I have to give credit to Kifowit for the hologram idea. Cars are so 20th century and she's being environmentally-conscious!

Anonymous said...

Hey Kifowit, 5% sounds like a challenge now. I'll bet that this Garcia person has a better chance then you do.

Anonymous said...

I challenge Kifowit to say she had a full crowd at either of these two failures. She clearly is not connecting with the voters. Maybe she needs to realize just because anyone may not like Tom doesn't mean anyone is going to like her.

That new Alderman-at-Large candidate Garcia has made more sense in one day than Kifowit or Irvin have made combined!

Anonymous said...

What did Stephanie do to everyone on this blog to turn against her?

Anonymous said...

Why is Kifowit having fundraisers at all? Didn't she get that $400,000 gift of dolls?

Too bad the dolls can't vote!

Anonymous said...

Stephanie doesn't have the support of people despite all her campaiging and showing up to everything all the time.

Her city manager idea is a total bust. Did she get it on the ballot? No.

Anonymous said...

Never thought I'd say this, but between the three current choices, Weisner may be least worst.

Lawrence will make a great mayor and he's the only one who's been consistently right on the issues.

Anonymous said...

Reality is hard for some. Kifowit's events obviously were not good and you can only blame the weather to a point. At some point, the candidate has to take responsibility that maybe she's wrong about her approach.

Anonymous said...

If Kifowit really said the following after her fundraiser, she's hallucinating:

"It was a good event and the food was great...our campaign is going full steam ahead."

Anonymous said...

Given the choices, I'm going to write-in Lawrence for mayor.

Anonymous said...

Lawrence needs to stay in as Alderman. He made his choice. If wants to run next time, I'm in.

Anonymous said...

I give her credit for making the run. Openline just likes to kick a person when their down. Shows that Openline is just like Weisner.

Anonymous said...

If Kifowit wants any other news out there then why doesn't she do something. Nobody has heard a word from her. It's not good enough just to say I'm not Weisner.

Anonymous said...

Undercover investigation: Openline blog has nothing better to do than to take pictures of parking lots and ponder the definition of a "good" event. Openlineblog has secretly taken pictures of vehicles at events to show that there could be a difference of opinion in when someone says a "good" event verses an outstanding event. (Weather factors were not taken into account in our scientific analysis). In the Openline blog opinion, a good event must be signified by at least 50 cars or more. Scientific studies have showed that less than 50 cars can mean that a "good" event is not the correct title. More investigation on to the actual number of cars per event to follow. Earth shattering news!

Anonymous said...

You can twist this anyway you like. For a fund raiser this is a failure.
Openline covered the Mayors fund raiser in the same manner. His was during a severe thunderstorm and tornado warning. Plus he had the police protesting the event and still his people crossed the picket line and donated to that guy.

Unfortunately she needs to face reality here unless she does not need the money.

Anonymous said...

Seems to me Kifowit isn't able to gather support and these pictures seem to confirm that.

Having said that, I don't know what she has been doing. I know she goes to lots of events, but what is she saying that is specific and concrete other than we need a city manager? If she's so brilliant, why isn't city manager on the ballot?

Anonymous said...

Here's some honest reality for Kifowit.

Whatever she's doing hasn't worked and her events have been flops.

She's blaming Openline for sharing reality with all of us but she should be blaming herself.

This is a city of over 175,000 people and that first picture shows more cars of her family and the facility staff than public supporters. That may be embarassing, but it is REALITY.

Anonymous said...

Kifowit has been flip-flopping these last few years. Taxes, spending, Planned Parenthood. She supported Bigelow's Hometown and then was against it.

Anonymous said...

Hello--we've had record-breaking cold these past few days. Schools have been closed. Pipes have frozen, cars won't start. PEOPLE ARE STAYING INDOORS.

I am a Kifowit supporter, and chose to stay home with my family last night rather than go to her event. However, I will be placing a sign in my yard and hopefully hosting a meet-and-greet for my neighbors.

Leave it to Openline to completely ignore the reality of the inclement weather in their quest to discredit Stephanie. Desperate, much?

Anonymous said...

Okay, humm, so what? Last I checked we live in American and people have the right to pursue their dreams and ambitions. This blog is just showing bias and no facts.

Anonymous said...

Irvin is the biggest flip flopper of them all. He'll lose by a landslide and his political career will be flushed down the toliet.

Anonymous said...

Irvin campaign probably took the pictures and sent them to the media.

Anonymous said...

1:32, everyone knew for the last week it was going to be frigid cold on Thursday so if Kifowit was worried about the weather, why didn't she postpone it on Tuesday, Wednesday or even Thursday?

And to further discredit the weather excuse, Kifowit herself says she had lots of people at both these event flops.

Why is so hard for Kifowit to admit she just doesn't have any significant support?

Anonymous said...

There were more people at McDonald's between 5pm and 7pm last night than Kifowit's free-for-all.

Maybe she would have got more people if she had the grand opening at McDonald's instead!

Anonymous said...

Unless someone is disputing the validity of these photos and they seem to be accurate regardless of whether some reader took them or the reporters or some other campaign, then it seems to me anyone objective would say these events were flops.

The weather excuse is contradicted by Kifowit's claims she had good events. Under her logic, what would a FLOP be? Zero people?

Anonymous said...

I'm interested to learn more about Kifowit's fiscal expertise.

After all, she took a $400,000 doll donation and turned them into $2 trinkets.

What would she do with $400 million per year? Taxpayers would end up with $2,000 trinkets?

Anonymous said...

Wait, a couple of those cars look like they are from the Campton Hills police department!!

Is there anyone running for mayor in this city, that is willing to talk about and clean up the pay-to-pay politics and croyism of the present administration? Is there NO ONE investigating to see if there are connections between Nayak, Cosgrove, Weisner, Trombley of PP, Weingartz, Blago, the Police Palace, etc. I want to know how the mayor and administration were able to push through a multi-million dollar palace without having any firm figures of what it was going to cost the taxpayers. Was there pay-to-play to the mayor from the contractors and businesses, if so how much and who? I want to know who called Weisner from the top of the food chain in the state house or the U.S. Senate and told him to shut his mouth and open up PP (although the community did not want them here, deception was used and laws were broken). Were campaign contributions and promises made for payback? How much, what and from who? I want to know how Nayak got the nod for the old Copley building, did he pay someone and how much? Is there anyone in local or state politics that is involved in pay-to-play? Has the incoming presidential administration made promises to payback our local politicians for favors granted? Are the mayoral candidates being approached by businesses or organizations, to grant favors for contributions? What is going on with you Openline, are you being bought off and by who?

Anonymous said...

What? If it weren't for Openline, nobody would even know about Nayak and all these issues with pay-to-play.

The bigger question is why Kifowit or Irvin have been silent about these issues. Lawrence has been clear about the problems.

Anonymous said...

Weisner should give back any money he got from Galloway. That guy only leads to trouble for Weisner because of his corrupt ways.

Anonymous said...

Lawrence proposed tough campaign contribution limits and campaign finance reform.

Anonymous said...

Kifowit got a $400,000 campaign contribution from those silly dolls.

Anonymous said...

Kifowit can keep her dolls, but she ain't got a snowball's chance of beating Weisner. She and Irvin are going to fight to see who ruins their political career worst! After this election, they are both political toast.

Anonymous said...

I'm a supporter of Weisner so before someone bashes me, let me explain.

I don't agree with lots of things by Weisner, but compared to Richard Irvin or Stephanie Kifowit, he's a better choice.

I would rather see Rick Lawrence be mayor and that is what most people want, but for now, I'm willing to put up with Weisner temporarily because the alternates are worse.

I think I speak for lots of people who will vote the same way. Tom deserves criticism, but I'm looking ahead to Rick Lawrence being mayor and that's when this city will truly turn around.

Anonymous said...

Alot of the people also felt the same way about the govenor last election as they are thinking about Weisner and look what happened.

Anonymous said...

I think 4:30 just explained what happened to this blog...

Anonymous said...

That should say 4:31. Oops

Anonymous said...

So true because 4:31 is still holding the silly dream of Lawrence running for Mayor. He dropped out, is that Mayor material? To drop out of a race? Get over it. Openline blog used to be good reporting; now it is a Weisner LOVE fest.

Anonymous said...

Will Weisner or Kifowit show up to the debates proposed by Irvin. Who ever doesn't is a coward and is afraid to field questions in front of the public. Time will tell!

Anonymous said...

As I stated before, there was only one holding cell in the new police station booking area for females, males, and juveniles,no restrooms for the booking officers, no bulletproof glass for the desk officer. What are Katterman and Weisner thinking?
Also word has it that it will be 40 million over budget. With your great investigative powers, see if this is true.
Sorry I forgot you can only find out things about stephanie.

Anonymous said...

Why don't you just go to a City Council meeting and ask those questions about the new station? If I wanted to know if this is true, this is what I would do.

Anonymous said...

Back to kifowit for Mayor. Mayor of what.....? that girl could not run a washing machine.

Anonymous said...

Here is a little reality for all of you. Lawrence intended Mayor to be a part time job, while drawing a full time salary - simple as that.

He was worried he could not beat Weisner and took the easier way out by reupping as Alderman insuring himself a medical and a pension. Weisner will have to deal with the financial mess and raise taxes, so Lawrence will have clean hands and be able to run in 4 years.

Anonymous said...

This stuff about the police station. Openline reported on it several times about how it's gone way over budget. They are the ones who said it was exceeding $100 million. Did Kifowit or Irvin ever voice concerns in city council? Or do they just wait for Rick Lawrence to ask the tough questions?

Anonymous said...

Kifowit says she had lots of people at her grand opening. She must be referring to those dolls. They probably were at the grand opening for sale.

Anonymous said...

APRIL 2009

Kifowit places last in three way race!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Don't be so gullible people! More than likely, this biased Openline photographer snapped that picture just when people were starting to arrive or after most everyone already left. Who's to say it was even taken that very night of the fundraiser. Who you kidding Openline?

Anonymous said...

Who really cares about Kifowit? She's a longshot, and I don't know why Openline is so focused on printing this crap. I want to support Irvin but I haven't seen any reason why I should support Irvin over Weisner.

Anonymous said...

Hey, here's the solution: Lets have a few debates and listen to the candidates answer questions and discuss the issues. Then we can all make an intelligent decision at the polls.

Anonymous said...

Since late 2008 Kifowit has been going down hill, but as the April 2009 election draws closer, it appears she has imploded. Her ideas and accomplishments have been a "no-show".

Anonymous said...

That picture was not taken the night of the open house From what I heard the parking lot was full and people had to park on the side street and there were people comming in after 8:00 P.M.

I want Chuck Norris for mayor!
He would kick all forms of ass over at city hall. Chuck Norris could kick Canadian Nationals ass's too. And Shodeen would fear Chuck Norris, and fill in the hole they made for free, just for not getting their ass's kicked by Chuck Norris.

Anonymous said...

2:15 That happens every Tuesday night. Kifowit & Rich do not ever have anything to say. She has had 6 years to speak out and we have received nothing. Just the facts!

Anonymous said...

Hey 3:02

Chuck Norris takes it in the ass!

Anonymous said...

Hello, I took the picture from her grand opening and sent it to Openline. It was right in the middle of her event. If it was taken at any other time, you probably wouldn't see this many cars. You would probably see 1 or 2.

Anonymous said...

There is too much light in the picture to have been taken during the event. It must have been taken at dusk which would have meant more towards the beginning of the event.

Anonymous said...

She could hold an event at the homeless shelter on south river at 2 in the morning ans she would only wake 5 people even if she was offering free T-Bone steaks!

Anonymous said...

Huh....... hows come there are no comments about the debates?

Anonymous said...

Hey 3:14 Why dont you tell us what time you took this picture and tell us who you are?

Why do you care how many people show up to her events are you scared that she will win this race?

Anonymous said...

Most fundraisers are poorly attended. The key is to get the money before the fundraiser, then when less people show up you only have to buy food for a few. Duh.

Anonymous said...

3:50

Quite simple. It would leave a certain candidate exposed and very vulnerable. He will dodge the idea of taking part in a debate as long as he can. Wont you Tommy??

Anonymous said...

Openline is wrong!

I attended a Kifowit fund raiser this evening. It was a smashing success. Located at Hesed House, she had a very large crowd and I believe raised just a little under 4 dollars. You go girl!

Anonymous said...

Oh lil Tommy........ no substance

Anonymous said...

Wrong those are the folks that are backing her
8:16

Anonymous said...

Okay my comment was over the top, however it also was true. I apologize fro posting what should have remained a memory.

Anonymous said...

Well, Rick Lawrence is backing Irvin, so that goes to show you what type of people are backing Irvin. Smut and lies. Of course that fits for someone who defends gang bangers and criminals for a living. -- let's see if openline deletes this comment too.

Anonymous said...

It is unfortunate that Lawrence is backing Irvin.

Irvin is even more distasteful than most people realize.

Anonymous said...

This goes to the comment left on the 16th at 7:11 pm. You should know for a fact that Stephanie will be at any debate either Irvin or Weisner want to have.

Anonymous said...

Lawrence isn't supporting Irvin or Weisner or Kifowit from what I can tell.

I'll write-in Rick Lawrence for mayor. I bet if we spread the word, he will get more write-in votes than Kifowit or Irvin get regular votes.

Anonymous said...

Go to Richard Irvin's facebook page and look at the picture of those two at Richard's Announcement. That's the reason Lawrence dropped out, is because Richard was going to run.

Anonymous said...

WELL, WELL, WELL IT DOES NOT LOOK TO ME LIKE HER FUND RAISER WAS A SUCCESS. CHECK OUT THE D2'S.

Anonymous said...

I disagree with the assessment of Stephanie Kifowit made at 10:45 on 1/16/09. I really like her ass and do not find it fat at all.
