During an interview with the Daily Herald, Illinois State Sen. Linda Holmes (D-Plainfield) said she "absolutely" favors lifting a smoking ban at casinos and veterans clubs.
In contrast, during the same interview, incoming Illinois State Rep. Darlene Senger (R-Naperville) said the smoking ban needs to be applied equally everywhere.
Health officials say the smoking ban has been a success in Illinois and made the workplace and environment for non-smokers more friendly for restaurants and bars.
Casinos claim substantial drops in revenue are mostly due to the smoking ban, which tends to force smokers outside for a break from gambling.
Should the smoking ban continue to be applied equally everywhere or should any exemptions be made?

How much money did Hollywood give to Holmes ?
She is truly an idiot. Why is one establishment better then the rest?
She is right they should be lifted everywhere! Note I am not a smoker and I did not vote for holms and she is a moron democrat. But Smoking is legal and the government should not ban a legal activity from private business.
Big brother don't tred on me!
Having said all that her motivation is most likely purley political & has nothing to do with laws or freedom or the constitution.
Smoking bans should be lifted wherever a business is able to buy off a House or Senate member. Money talks bull---- walks.
I agree with her. I don't frequent casinos or any of the other establishments mentioned, but the reality is that it is effecting their business. I'm not a smoker either, but it amazes me that we have this law. If you don't like cigarette smoke, don't go to places that are full of smokers!
Let them smoke. Have you seen the people that go to casinos? There completely hideous. The only problem with smoking is that it takes to long before they die.
I agree with Linda on thisone and it is good to see her put something forward that doesnt have Emil Jones written all over it!! Way to go Linda!
I disagree with Linda Holmes. If the smoking ban is to protect the workforce and public from second-hand smoke, then why should a casino be different than any other location?
And veterans clubs? That makes zero sense!
Linda Holmes is against the health of veterans.
does Linda Holmes smoke?
So we have time to worry about smokers but not illegal aliens.
Many vets clubs and small neighborhood bars ignore the ban anyway, especially now that blizzards and sub zero wind chills are here.
Linda Holmes looks like a smoker.
She is not a smoker. And I agree with her on this one. If you don't want to be around cigarette smoke, don't go into a casino or bar. Or get a job there. It's not rocket science.
If the casino gave me alot of money, I, too, would be in favor of doing whatever the casino wanted.
Since this is Openline I'll ask. Does anyone have the skinny on the L.H. divorce?
So, when gamblers lose all their money, who will pay for their health care when they get lung cancer???
Employees should not have to breathe second hand smoke just to keep their job.
And police officers should not get shot at for their job! and firemen should not have to run into burning buildings! Thats what comes with the job. If you don't like what comes with your job get a new job!
LH is divorced. She lives out by the mall. Her husband is running around with another blond that looks almost just like LH. Let's just say that LH partied too much in Springfield.
If the ban is such a "success", why are they attempting to add more POLICE ENFORCEMENT?
Linda Holmes owes her seat to Blago and Jones.
Let's see how she votes when the impeachment reaches the Senate.
Illinoisans are losing their jobs, homes and their savings. Healthcare cost continues to increase. School funding by the state has decreased and is one of the lowest in the nation. Yet this is the best Linda Holmes can do! She does not deserve to be in Springfield.
