City of Aurora Considers Fireworks Show Move to July 3rd; Same As City of Chicago

The City of Aurora's Government Operations (G.O.) Committee approved a change to move the annual Independence Day fireworks show to Friday, July 3rd for this year, which would be considered by the full Aurora City Council in few weeks.

According to Gina Moga from the City of Aurora's Special Events, the reason for the temporary change for one year is because July 3rd falls on a Friday and would provide flexibility for people to travel for the weekend.

The change would also mean the City of Aurora would have their fireworks show at the same time as the City of Chicago, which usually has their show on July 3rd. The largest cities in Illinois would be the same.

What do you think? Friday, July 3rd or Saturday, July 4th?

Another goofy move by the idiots just for the hell of it. A lot of people like to go to both but now they will have to make a choice just because GIna has her shorts in a knot.

This is ridiculous! Why not just move the fireworks to the 4th - the actual day of celebration? Neither city seems to have caught on... I guess 'commonsense' is not on anyone's job description...

Since when has government ever demonstrated "commonsense"?

Having written that, I wonder if the decision makers of this city ever considered whether or not the average worker, you know, the people in the private sector, have that day (July 3) off?

I suggest that the leisure of getting to and watching fireworks on a day off of work is far superior to all of the hustle and bustle of getting home, dinner etc and packing the family off to fireworks.

But I do not work for government so I guess I am just ignorant and do not understand.

By the way, since I have written something contra to the government decision in this matter I must be a subscriber to or of "Rightwing Extremism".

Scroll down to the post on guns and learn the definition of "Rightwing Extremism" as set out by the Department of Homeland Security.

Be very careful you too might fit that definition and be swept into that group. Let’s see, could Patrick Henry, who is attributed as saying, “Give me liberty or give me death” be included in such company? Read it, truth is stranger than fiction.

So Gina has weekend plans and does not want to have the fireworks on the fourth? That is ridiculous! What compelling reason is there for not having the fireworks on the fourth? Let your aldermen know that you oppose moving the fireworks for Gina's benefit. She's getting paid by the taxpayers so their convenience should come before hers.

Who really cares?

All things being fair, every American have to ask, “Why doesn’t Mexico celebrate and honor America’s Independence Day, the Fourth of July”? I believe what's good for the goose is good for the gander. If we are to continue to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day (Cinco de Mayo) May 5th, shouldn’t Mexico do the politically correct thing?

I heard this about the "Great" Alderman Lawrence.
The other day he got a call from a couple that had been out for a walk. The side walk collapsed under the woman and she fell into a sink hole full of water. Sounds like it could be a lawsuit for the city if she got hurt.
But at the City Counsel meeting Rick was overheard telling people about it and LAUGHING!!
Smooth move O Great One. It should happen to you.

Mankind has not progressed one inch from the slime which spawned it.

If someone attended the council meeting why not report it to the blog? What happened? What Aldermen did what etc...

Rick Lawrence writes this blog and he's at the meetings. Only he wants to promote himself and nothing else.

I have to agree with Leonard about being a Rightwing Extremism because I believe also that everyone doesn't get July 3rd off. Some don't get the rest of the weekend off either. If the city is going to spend that kind of money for the fireworks shouldn't they make it so all the taxpayers should be able to enjoy this.

My first thought was it might be a good idea, but after reading some of the comments, I concur with Leonard.

It's easier for more people to attend on actual holiday.

hey! why is everyone such negativists!

Anonymous said...

Because 11 members of the city council are leftist subversives and the 12th is a moderate.

STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.

Yes, maybe people don't have the 3rd off but the fireworks are often not until 9pm and the holiday people have off to relax. I don't mind them being on a Friday night.

I think we should save the $25,000.00 by not having fireworks at all.

Money up in smoke.

6:49 - Do you have any clue why we celebrate the 4th of July? It is the most important holiday - period. Do you have any idea how many gave their lives so you could celebrate the 4th of July? I fyou don't want to celebrate it pout a gun in your mouth and pull the trigger you unpatriotic spoiled little brat. If you are worried about the money pull it from Hesed House or family counseling, or Juany Garza's fence fund.

People - Rick Lawrence is the best representation that "We the People" have on the city council and even possibly in Kane County!

I am disgusted to read that someone would claim that Rick would be laughing about a person's injury. Perhaps he was laughing at the incompetence of the city at their ability to thwart issues PRIOR to one's demise. Stop spending ward money on parties and spend it on our infrastructure!

Finally, the 4th of July SHOULD stay on the 4th!!!! We don't move Christmas or any other holiday so why in the world does the city think that this holiday should be moved??

"We the People" want to celebrate what little independence on the day that we first became INDEPENDENT - oh wait - that is in jeopardy too - no wonder the "city" (government) is trying to remove one more layer of our protection.

Ask Rick Lawrence why he was such a Weisner supporter during the campaign and why Vantreese held a lavish fundraiser. Lawrence is part of the establishment, he just talks a good game. And yes, I can see him laughing about it. I have seen him laugh and joke about other things similar that is uncalled for.

The fourth of July is about our independence and our veterans -- it's not about fancy fireworks or carnivals. I think all those things detract to what is really important. We can do without the fireworks, to me the parade is the most important part.

"Lil Rickie" is going to be "Lil Tommie" Mayor pro tem.

Do you really think Bob O is going to release his death grip on mayor pro tem?

July 4th is our Independance Day and that is when it should be celebrated. Not on July 3rd. The 4th of July is the only national holiday we have left that has not been moved to Friday or Monday depending on where it falls. But, the way this country is heading we may not have to have a debate about this at all, as soon this country just not be the way it was meant to be and wars were fought over to keep it that way.
