Vice President Joe Biden's Swine Flu Travel Advice Fiasco and The White House Backpedal

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has lived up to his reputation for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, saying people shouldn't use airplanes or subways due to swine flu concerns (see above).

The travel industry has reacted by saying Biden's comments are fear-mongering.

Then, to make matters worse, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs attempted to explain what the Vice President "meant" to say (see below).

VP Biden. The most eloquent VP we'll ever have. He's one smooth operator. Anyway no one can afford to not go to work or otherwise go about their lives. So people have to rely on airplanes and subways and buses and take their chances.

Maybe if Biden's Homeland Security Chief Napolitano would resume enforcement of anti-immigration laws we wouldn't have so many illegal Mexicans in this country and we could reduce our exposure to their flu.

Do you think Keith Olbermann will dub Biden as "The Worst Person of the World" award?

Seems to me this is much worse than a VP misspelling potato!

Where is the outrange? Does anyone really still believe the media isn't a bunch of leftist biased propagandist?

First Obama then his VEEP try their best to destroy the travel and tourism industry. Harry Reid's precious Las Vegas is reeling from Obama telling people to stay away and now Biden (the rhetorical gift that keeps on giving. And giving.) tells people to stay off trains and planes! Do these people want to take over the travel industry too?

So I take it OpenLine thinks that the presence of Mexican nationals in Aurora has had an overall positive impact then? You must be smoking some of that crack Obama claims he use to sell.

If this swine flu is as bad as they say then I would say if you don't want to get it don't go into closed places like airplanes. Why do people think it is alright to profile people that they think might blow up an airplane not worry if someone is sick on a plane that could make you sick? You can't tell me if one of your loved ones was traveling you wouldn't tell them to be careful when traveling if this flu is as bad as they say. Maybe this is just a test to see how people will react before something really does happen to make a lot of people sick and reduce the population.

7:36 - many people have a choice of - board a plane or you will not be employed next week. Not the most pleasant choice. I met a lot of people in that situation this week, as I was. It was scary, every cough on the plane sent heads snapping. Trade shows are wonderful, no one has the balls to say for the safety of their employees we will not be shaking hands at introduction time.

I went through 2 bottles of hand sanitizer this week.

The Drake... Obama & co are not trying to destroy the travel industry as the previous administration did that beautifully with obscure travel rules, restrictions and religious and racial profiling at immigration. Think about it - the % of overseas visitors bringing much needed $ (avg spend US$400/day) has been dropping year-on-year and no end in sight. Without this 'import', the US economy has lost tourism as a real industry.

I loved the other comments on this post - one way to look at this pandemic is to perhaps be fatalistic. If you're destined to croak from the flu, then nothing done/said can prevent your death.

This blog is lame, and now you try to gain some credit by removing posts? Should have thought of that months ago.

Hey lets hire some flue chasers that would be a start on the 5 million new jobs...than we would only have four million nine hundred ninty five thousand nine hundred and ninty nine to go...gosh I don't think OSAMA ol boy can do it by the time he leaves office. At any rate he should be gitting started soon as he said in the campaign.
