With East Aurora School District 131 having a crisis for years, change is happening, at least on the school board level.
New members Stella Gonzales, Annette Johnson and Anita Lewis are replacing Fernando Salinas, Ken Maurice and Bob McCue, the new all-women school board with Rayanne Carlson and Carol Farnum also has a new president, Dee Weaver.
After the second phase of change to revamp the school board, we wish the new school board success in taking bold and aggressive steps to reverse the chronic problems of the past.

We can thank the administration who supported a vendetta and replaced an outstanding band director a few years ago for at least 3 of the present School Board members.

Yes, we are so proud of our district and their decsion not to close a school down last week because two children where sick and they weren't sure if it was swine flu. Some in administration just thought it is only the flu nothing to worry about and then yesturday parents where told that two children had swine flu. Now the Health Department is now saying after last week when eveyone was scared about it that it isn't has bad as they thought this district still didn't close down the school and clean it up.
But we should be proud becausw we are one of the first districts that are on Twitter!
It IS only the flu--not the plague!
Good for our district for having common sense instead of acting like Chicken Little ("the sky is falling, the sky is falling!") The CDC recommended taking precautions such as frequent hand-washing, using sanitizer, and containing coughs & sneezes. These precautions are being followed in our schools.
Any parent who is concerned that their child might be exposed to swine flu can certainly keep them home from school. But to close down the schools entirely would have been overreacting.
So you are say that all the other districts that closed the schools they thought might have the flu over reacted? No they all made a choice for the best of the children.
Most schools throughout the Fox Valley remained open. If a parent feels that their child is endangered, they can certainly choose to keep them home. But most of us have been treating this as what it has been proven to be: a flu virus, not the end of the world.
Maybe this new board will do the right thing and start fighting the drug problem in the schools. The East Aurora School District is the only school district that does not allow the police to come into the school with dogs to search for drugs. What are they afraid of?
I meant to say that they are the only district in the Aurora area to not allow drug dogs. Sorry for the confusion.
The schools that stayed open where the ones that didn't have any sick children not because a child might have had the flu and like some state it wasn't that bad so they decided to let the child stay in school and infected other children.
The CDC has repeatedly said that people may be carrying the flu virus & be contagious before symptoms appear, so there's no way to tell whether anyone at a particular school has the flu or not. Again, most schools stayed OPEN--who knows how many children & staff had the flu, or were contagious?
Coulda, woulda, shoulda are easy ways to criticize a decision after the fact. And the fact remains that those parents who were worried about their child catching the flu were certainly within their rights to keep them home.
Thank goodness Farnum and Wells did not get positions of power. Now we should see some positive change

East Aurora really changed out with the old corrupt old guard and in with some pople who I feel will spend the Districts money wisely.
It will take time to see if things change with the new board but it also takes the parents to get involved. Lets hope the new board will try to get the parents and the community involved. When the board gives out their awards lets hope the new board presidents doesn't say that they can leave because the boring stuff is coming up next. What should be said is please stay and see the role of the board in the decisions made for you children and how the money is spent in the district.
I know parents in the district that have had concerns with their children being bullied, hurt at school and learning problems they have talked to the principle and got no answers and maybe went to the administration and didn't get any answers either. They should know that after they have went through the chain of command they can contact the board after that to see if they can get answers to their questions.
I personally cannot wait to see what the old ones have left behind for this new board to handle. Bet there will be things that this community is not going to happy about as before nothing was made transparent. It will be interesting.

Gonzalez the new board member is a teacher and can not even communicate yet she could sit up there and tell us how great Wells was. How would she know she never attended a meeting. She is a old guard patsy.

Here is something positive from this district and it is someone from Waldo. Mike Adams is one of the educators of the years. We might post things that people don't like on here but we also post about the teachers that make our district shine.

I received by tax bill it increased $800 no we the taxpayers are the losers supporting all the illegals in D131.
I have been involved with d131 for many years and believe me when I say, NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE! Every board we have had in East Aurora has rubber stamped everything every superintendent has asked for. For the most part they are people with basic educations that are intiminated by people with degrees. What we need on the board are educated people that understand the educational system. People that don't believe everything they are told by the adminstration on 5th Street. The whole group on 5th Street are just a bunch of clueless, self-serving dogs. They are so out of touch with the buildings that they don't know what is going on until the **** hits the fan. Then it is too late. I guess you could say that the administration and the board are the classic example of the clueless leading the brainless. So don't hope for change, because it isn't coming.
