Chicago Corruption, Illinois Pay-to-Play | Will the Epidemic Be Stopped or Become a Pandemic?

From Chicago's City Hall to the State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois, the epidemic of corruption, pay-to-play, cronyism, family dynasties, who-you-know, consolidated power, special interests, ghost payroll schemes, hired truck scandals, lobbyist gigs and the "Chicago way" have made Chicago and Illinois into a case study for the world on how not to operate government for the people's best interests.

Will the Illinois General Assembly stop the pandemic or continue to spread the disease?

Can they shut down corrupt regimes like Chicago Mayor Daley? Can they implement campaign contribution limits? Can they create real transparency and accountability?

What reform do you want to see and what do you think will actually happen?

You know I'm getting a little sick and tired of the continuous harping about Chicago political corruption. Yes, it is a corrupt place. It is corrupt because it has had one party rule for too long. The same corruption exists in DuPage county and Kane County and Kendall county,et al. for the same reasons. To think that there is only corruption in Chicago and that it doesn't exist out in the Republican controlled collar counties is absurd and disingenuous. If anything it is more corrupt out in the Republican controlled counties because there is no effect media out here to expose anything. Not that the newspapers are much good in Chicago but once in awhile they stumble over something and report. There are no TV stations and the newspapers are all Republican party propaganda sheets. Its the dirty pot calling the dirty kettle dirty - they are both dirty.

Illinois will soon be in the same predicament as California.....broke, from all the political corruption. Getting out is the easiest thing to do. I left Illinois and the city of Aurora several years ago for the express reason of corruption and high taxes. No more paying high property taxes, high income taxes, high sales taxes, or any other high tax to feed the corrupt in Illinois. I am still alive and happily keeping my money in my pocket rather than the crooks that populate Aurora and Illinois.

Hmm. In the past, a story like this would have had at least some mention of "so-called mayor" Tom Weisner and his crooked ways. What happened to you, Openline?

10:34, if you are referring to the first two posts it may be that they weren't written by Openline. I know 9:28 wasn't written by Openline because I wrote it and I am certainly not part of Openline. I am sure they will chime in about somebody in Aurora. I wonder who it will be?

it's all the fault of "so-called mayor" Tom Weisner and his crooked ways... ;-)

It's not just Chicago and the State. It happens in the great City of Aurora. If you don't give out wonderful mayor a nice contribution then don't every plan on selling any public property in the city. They will make in impossible to do so. The wonderful people of the city voted this garbage in for the next 4 years great. Everybody wonders why the city has no development? Look no further than the wonderful mayor.

Isn't the Kane County Sheriff juicing the City of Aurora for 60k of the grant money they may get for alleged and undocumented admin costs?

I was watching C-span and there was a House hearing on education. They stated how some districts are not following No Child Left Behind. and in Illinois they called out three districts Chicago, Cicero and Aurora East. They is going to look into this. Looks like East Aurora has a lot in common with Chicago.

Corruption is an epidemic all over and yes, it's in Chicago, Aurora, Springfield.

I predict the Illinois General Assembly will go soft on it and risk the apathy of most voters.

We have such poor choices in candidates so often. We need people with integrity to run and then everyone needs to step up to help support those people.

Corruption is practiced by both Republicans and Democrats.

Even in Chicago, which is run by Democrats, the reason Mayor Daley gets away with so much is because Republican business leaders are in his pocket, too.

All of you had your chance to vote Wiesner out of office, but 80% of you sat on your lazy ass and didnt vote, So now! you get another fours years of the same bullshit! Next time, get out and vote!

4:20 - vote for what? All three candidates are corrupt. Examine their lives, conduct, and intellect.

I agree 6:07, I always vote but not the last time. I couldn't bring myself to vote for any one of them. The problem is anyone who would be an able leader for the people would be shut out by the money elites who are backing Weisner.

8:57 - exactly. I voted just not for the office of mayor.

well, 10:34 and 11:52; I had answered your question and it appears to have been deleted (funny how that happens). This "so called" blog stopped being critical of Weisner when a "so called" developer Vantreese, who swears he never gives political money, held a fancy fundraiser for him. This fundraiser was attended by the Openline blog "so called" writer Rick Lawrence and his indian side kick. That is why this blog has been paid off to stop harping on Weisner. Hummmmmmm, pay to play politics endorsed by this blog who seems to think it's okay.

I say you all had your chance. Who cares about the other candidates, anyone but Weisner would have been just fine. You all blew it; and all the unions who supported Weisner is going to get a huge awakening when they see how anti-union Weisner really is. Have you seen his D-2's? All Chicago PAC money. Aurora has just been bought by Chicago politicians and Weisner is their puppet. The other two candidates would have been tons better than Weisner. Weisner is the most corrupt of them all.

If you didn't cast a vote for Mayor then you indirectly supported Weisner. You have no right to complain about anything.

When anyone did not vote for Mayor that was giving weisner their vote. Even if no one liked any of the other candidates what could they have done that weisner has not? I did not vote for Weisner, I voted for Irvin. I at least was willing to take a chance to bad the ones who did not vote was not willing to do so as by their choice in not voting it got Weisner back in and for one moment do not even think Weisner was not aware that this would be how he would win.

10:40 here is the problem. Irvin is a philanderer who uses his legal credential s to coerce downtrodden young women to submit to his carnal desires. Irvin is also a blatant racist. So you can be real proud you voted for him.

It will never be shut down as long as 6 million Democratic Socialists use the reasoning that " My father voted democratic, my grandfather voted democratic and his father voted democratic, so why shouldn't I vote that way?" I can't tell you how many people from Chicago have stated this to me when I asked why they voted the way they did. With this line of reasoning Illinois is in for many, many years of future corruption. Beside this they have a ward committee man who can get their son a job with the city or park district which is currently 10 BILLION SHORT. What is lttle dick Daley going to do when the money and the assets to sell run out at the same time...he'll probably go to his home in another state and enjoy life while the people still vote the way their forebarers did.

I know nothing about the carnal part that has been stated on the blog. As far as him being a recist, he has never shown that to me and I have met him on occasions and I am white. Anyway, what is the big deal? Weisner has done much more wrong than Irvin if what you state about Irvin is true, so at least we would have had someone different with less faults.

9:03 - I have no idea what Irvin thinks of white people but I do know what he thinks of black people and that is where I take offense. Irvin is the worst type of racist because he genuinely believes only set asides and Government intervention can allow people of color to achieve. That attitude sickens me and i discounts the legitimate achievements by persons of color who actually compete on a level playing field. Preferences given to minority businesses are just another way of saying you can't make it on your own. And that is the racist politics of Richard Irvin. Without Government intervention according to Richard every black child is doomed to drug and gang involvement. I find this attitude highly offensive and the worst form of racism because it robs people of their pride and diminishes their accomplishments.

Yes, I also find that distasteful but I feel that it would have never passed the City Council. However, I find Weisner's pay-to-play attitude along with all the Chicago Madigan money with the Abortion clinic and the destruction of the Hi Lite more distasteful by a 100 fold!

I would rather has a confused black mayor that the corrupt white mayor we have any day. But it's a loss now because people just didn't feel like voting. Ho hum, lets see what happens when you don't feel like paying your taxes?

Anonymous said...

5:12 - I appreciate the polite conversation. Taxes huh - it is nuts. Right now my taxes are (drum roll).0335 of the actual market value. Another way to view that is what interest rate would I have to earn and how much money would I have to set aside in order to pay my taxes going forward. It is a compelling problem as the rise in property taxes has outpaced inflation.

Ok, I have heard numerous accounts of this Weisner fundraiser sponsored by Vantreese and attended by Lawrence. Does anyone know the specifics - like when it happened, where it happened, etc.? Where is the evidence? I haven't been able to find it

Why don't you call and leave a message for Lawerence to call you at the aldermen's office. I have called and asked that he call me and I am not in his ward. He did return my call.

5/18 9:30. Using the mutiplier is one way however I figured when my property taxes reached 45% of my social security payment I was just funding more corruption and lazyness with my retirement...solution was to move and let them look to a new sucker to fund their insatiable appitites for spending. Who needs it.
