Sun-Times Media Group Burns Cash Hoping for Rescue | Local Fishwrap (Beacon-News) Will Become Tabloid

The local fishwrap (Beacon-News) is becoming a tabloid in a few days.

We've been saying this was in the works for quite a while, but despite various silly denials, the ink is on the paper, so to speak.

Before any of you think (including our loyal blog viewer Andre Salles) this is a slam against the Beacon boys and girls, we hope this is a positive step as they try to prevent implosion.

Unfortunately or fortunately, it's not going to change the content much, but it will theoretically make it both easier to read while on a train and driving (since texting is no longer legal).

The Beacon has had various challenges. Recently, Dave Parro, who failed as an editor and lame attempts to be blog-like, bailed on his ink friends and took a "website" gig at Aurora University so he could mess things up there.

Meanwhile, the Sun-Times Media Group continues to flounder in bankruptcy, burn through cash at an alarming rate and is desperately hoping for a buyer rescue. One buyer interested in saving the Sun-Times flagship's fishwrap might try to convince a bankruptcy court to create two companies.

One company with the papers that aren't losing money as fast and the other one with the $600 million in debt they owe the IRS.

We continue to wish the Beacon well and hope they last long enough to see if their tabloid experiment helps.

Isn't it suspiciously odd that the people in Aurora move in circles. From the city to the park districts, from the paper to the colleges, from the sewer district to the county. A totally neutral observer might think that there is a lot of dollars to be made in this circle with little question as to who is actually paying for it all.

Well hopey changey voters where are you going to look for a job today? Bet by now you wish you could vote all over again for someone with the desire to really provide you jobs and not destroy what jobs are left. There are probably a lot of jobs in the services as Che has still not got us out of his wars. Another promise broken! Oh by the way four more troops were killed in Che's war this weekend. Where is the outrage?

Just as I suspected no coverage of the Tea Party Express in Joliet yesterday. NO matter how much Denise and CO. wish for a good outcome it will not be possible without improved reporting practices. Hint Denise: YOU GOT TO COVER ALL SIDES OF A STORY AND NOT JUST THE LEFT WING SIDE. Reason: you get the possibility of selling to 100% of the audience and not just the 50% you want to keep in office. Also it needs to be covered in an unbiased way if its news and leave the onesided articles to the editorials.

Of course you wish the beacon well. Without them you would have no stories to steal.

The Beacon's problem is they went pretty much 100% liberal all the time. The only intelligent thing I saw them print, and from Salles of all people, was when they backed that hotel owner against the city denying him his property rights. Outside of that, it has been one sob story after another for illegal that have destroyed this city, the diversity that plagues it, people who made the choice to overextend themselves and now have financial problems, and support for every Government expansion program that has come along.

The Beacon added Salles and he became the benchmark for leftist activist journalism. His liberal views are one of the reasons readership drops. The paper does not need to turn to the right, rather it needs to focus on the issues and strive for balance, and balance is not a socialist arguing with a communist.

If the Beacon had been a LOCAL NEWSPAPER, I think it would be healthy.

I do not want to pay over $150 a year for a paper that gets its headlines from TV national news programs and prints them two days later.

The Beacon editors have been deaf to our compaints for years.

It wouldn't matter. The majority of the general public get their news online. If the Beacon wants to survive, they should become a free paper, and hope that the increased "circulation" garners enough ad revenue that they can stay in business.

If you are paying anything for the Beacon you're a nut. My comes for free. And all the news is on their website anyway.

Liberal should pay for people to listen to their ideas, not pay to hear them.

I had no idea the Beacon was $150 a year - LOL.

I could see 5 bucks a month, maybe, for htis rag, but $150 a year - Hahahahahaaa...

The best yet was reporter Ecika Wurst her name serves her well. At on local meeting she was laying on the floor in the lobby putting together a story for the newspaper. That is the type of reporters they have so what do you expect in the way we get are news reported to us.
Andre dates the mayors stooge so that is another objective reporter.
Then there is the long standing censorship of letters to the editor

GREETINGS FROM THE CITY OF NONE. WE USED TO BE SECOND TO NONE, BUT WE JUST MOVED INTO FIRST PLACE.

WE HAVE A BUDGET DEFICIT OF ALMOST SIX MILLION DOLLARS THIS YEAR AND CLOSE TO TWENTY MILLION NEXT YEAR.

I HAVE A SUGGESTION. LETS TAKE IT FROM THE $130,000,000.00 POLICE PALACE BUDGET.

AURORA IS CLOSED. I WONDER WHY OTHER CITIES ARE NOT SUFFERING THIS "BAD LUCK."

Other cities do not have a populous comprised of low income to no income losers. That’s why.
Now get off the library’s computer so the next homeless loser can have his turn and go back to Joe’s cantina so you can drink cheap beer and do crack.

Why is this city broke? My real estate tax didn't go down. In fact it went up 20%

It's not a problem of not enough income, it's a spending problem.

This mayor and the council have mortgaged our future in this city.

$130 million dollar Police Palace is not going to make crime go down.

How about why is the state broke? Why is the country broke? It's government spending gone wild at every level.

I do not see how that is an excuse. I would say that other cities do not offer free public and private services that act as magnet to low income and no income losers, nor do other municipalities allow charities and Government entities to move in and take property after property off the tax rolls.

Do you ever wonder how much better Aurora would be if it did not help give tax payer money to low income people to buy houses, repair the houses, put up fences, pay for windows, and then more money to bail them out when they lose their subsistence level job, or catered to 3rd world immigrants?

What if we enforced English only, what if we cut all city funding to Hesed house and enforced vagrancy laws? What would happen if we took a touch stand on the number of families in a home and actually went after the employers (which is what the Federal immigration law is targeted at) of illegal aliens? Think how much better this community would be if we did not coddle the scum.

And unfortunately I have long term acquaintances from high school that are in this group. Nice guys but three time losers, who simply suck off the public teat as they labor in jobs like bus drivers and day laborers and are content with that.

If we did not coddle these guys they would leave, but life is pretty good here. They don't need to be responsible, can spend every dime they make, refuse to pay for the medical and dental insurance their employers provide, because Dentists volunteer their services and we have an emergency room that will treat them. When they are broke they can go to a food kitchen and get better quality food than I buy myself.

Aurora is a crap hole because you have leftists like Kifowit, Irvin, O'Connor, Weisner, Hart-Burns, Garcia and Lawrence(25% of the time) who coddle scum on the city council. That is the problem.

Pull the rug out form under these people, either they survive and thrive, move, or they perish. No matter how you slice it the city will be better off. These people are maggots, the proof can be found in every immigrant who comes here legally and starts a business (this overcomes many employment obstacles) and works hard, build s a business, and their children assimilate into the mainstream.

I don't get how making the paper easier to read makes it a Tabloid ? This might be the dumbest blog on earth... who even reads you anymore ?

Anonymous said...

8:14pm, You make a lot of accusations and what-ifs which of course are all unfounded, unproven, untested.
Maybe you should be so unlucky like those losers, scum, and maggots you so kindly refer to that have it so good Mr. Anonymous. I'm sure they would never want to trade places with you.

You're the real scum.

9:31 - you are a punk ass fag who should have his skull crushed in with the heel of a boot for daring to address you SUPERIOR in such a tone.

What was written that was not true? You either contribute to society or you do not. In a capitalistic society your contribution is measured in dollars and cents. If you want to measure some faggoty art or ambiance as a contribution go to France or one of those gay countries like Canada or Sweden where they think there is value in human debris.

Your comments would probably sound better in their original German.

I don't much care what shape the thing comes in, I want local news. If they don't get that, it's over for them.

11:13pm- I'm sure your tirade made you feel like a real tough guy, Mr. Anonymous. It's too bad you can't contribute your feeble brain waves into something more on an adult level and construct a reasonable argument that has merit.
Your judgmental words just reek with hate and racism. Go away please.

Anonymous said...

11:13pm, Your still scum.

Anonymous said...

9:36 - any chance you are a nigger? Bet you are a black woman. One of them mouthy niggers like Micheal Obama.

Anonymous said...

4:41

Go ahead and continue to spew your hate and racism BS. Little boys like you want to feel like a big man because you can get away using the N-word. I dare you to say that to a black man face to face...you'll get the deserving beatdown of your life. But you wouldn't have the guts being a chickenshit coward. You can only do that in anonymity. Ever notice how no one responds to your posts. That's because your a dumbass.

And who's Michael Obama? Or did you mean Michelle? Keep on indicting yourself as being a dumbass you punk.

Anonymous said...

7:58 - so you are tar baby after all - I knew it! And a woman to0 apparently.

As for a black man, that is different from a nigger. But you should know it. But if you think I am afraid of any man you are very mistaken.

And you respond to the posts, but then again you are just a trained monkey aren't you responding to nigger bait. I might as well dangle a banana from a rope.

Anonymous said...

9/9/09 7:58 PM

Don't bother responding--it's what he wants. Just wait until his parents kick him off the computer because it's his bedtime.

Anonymous said...

Exactly. The question is can 7:58 over come their inner chimp and not reach for the banana or can the sapien in them emerge and retain control. Curious minds want to know.

Anonymous said...

Wow so far it seems the sapien has subjugated the ape! Very impressive.

The Beacon has sunk to a new low. They now have high school students going door to door trying to sell their paper with the hope for these kids to get money for college. I wonder where they recruit these children at the schools? This is happening on the East side and at this time of night most people will not open their doors and the children do not need to be out at this time. This is the second time someone has come to my door. What false hope they give these children. Shame on you Beacon I will cancel my subscription not only because you have a bad paper but because of misusing these children. I bet the editors don't have their children knocking on doors to sell the paper.

Anonymous said...

They did the very same thing with school kids last year when they were pushing to pass the East side school referendum. They are banking on adults not refusing begging school kids. More evidence on how society has sunk to a new low.
