Aurora Alderman Says Dog Park is Taxpayer Priority During Fiscal Pressure

Third Ward Alderman Stephanie Kifowit, who has gone from her days of expressing fiscal concerns to a wild spender, says taxpayers should spend $63,000 on a dog park in Phillips Park on Aurora's East Side because "it's badly needed."

The City of Aurora began renovations and upgrades to Phillips Park for close a million dollars back in 2007, but due to the fiscal situation and budget constraints, all projects that are not essential are on the table for discussion.

Is a dog park essential?

Ninth Ward Alderman Leroy Keith says it would be better to postpone the dark park, which includes $2,000 benches shaped like dog bones.

Fourth Ward Alderman Rick Lawrence says this is the time to choose priorities and said that a compromise may be possible where a simple fenced area could be created for the same purpose at very little cost.

Some, like Kifowit, say the project should proceed anyway because there is a state grant to help with part of the costs. But, doesn't the state get their funds from taxpayers, too?

Kifowit says dogs are the priority. We say taxpayers.

Whitey's brother is the low bidder? Dog bone shaped benches? Are you kidding me Aurora?

Hats off to Kifowit. Finally and East side alderman advocating for something better on the east side. I know its only a dog-park but it goes deeper than that.

You got hart-burns and garza maintaininng the status quo. Keith and Mervine respresenting their people and trying to move forward, Elmore still in denial that she even lives in Aurora and Schuler moving her ward backwards for the worse.

Good for you Stephanie!

I love it. Day after day you have people here and the fishwrap asking, begging, and demanding free services from the feds the state and the local governments. Don't you people get it they are all broke from your past demands. Illinois is now FIVE BILLION IN ARREARS ON THEIR BILLS. The only reason that the feds arn't is that they keep printing money and driving inflation. And yet we have people like Kifowit trying to waste more tax dollars on pap like this. Get it through your thick heads that the past and present politicians have sold the country down the drain by acceding to the demands of the union police, school teachers, fire departments and countless other groups that have stolen your hard earned money. Than you turn right around and elect a stoop like OBMAMA. You sow what you reap.

Finish the park. Get the matching grant. But I agree that the thinking has to change.

But I do like the fact that Stephanie at least has standards higher than her east-side counterparts. It wouldn't be a ghetto if we had more like her.

Both Burns and Garza spend their wards funds (inappropriately) if you ask me on their ward, Kifowit on the other hand constantly rapes the total city treasury.

Example, buying a house, tearing it down, and selling the lot for a dollar to a man in her ward to expand his business because he is Hispanic.

Kifowit has ward funds available to her pet give-aways. Even though they come from the whole city at least in that fashion her rampant spending sprees are controlled.

I have to agree also about the park go forward with it since part is a grant. Phillps Park has come such a long way let's if we can and we watch the spending make sure dog park gets done.

It is a dog park why not dog bone benches?

Oh, Openline. So predictable.

8:32am you are soooo right!

I drive Kirk Road down from batavia every day and then turn west on Indian Trail.

Both areas have center medians landscaped with flowers and rocks. The stretch along Indian Trail is immaculate (Elmore's Ward).

The stretch on Kirk and on Indian trail from Farnsworth to Stonebridge (Schuler) is a complete and utter overgrown mess, dead trees, weeds, etc.

Its amazing how much a good alderman can affect a particular area of the City.

Since Kifowit wants this for her ward, why not a special assessment to cover the cost if it so desirable. That money comes form the State, why should everyone in the state pay for Kifowits doggie park?

Anonymous said...

I like Kifowit, she tries, which is more than I can say for 9 of the losers on city council, total morons!

But she has to understand, Like her defense of the police palace, IT IS ALL our $. Wether it comes from fed grants state grants etc. Unless it is private money, it is tax payer dollars and that has to stop!

I say get Purina, or Eukanuba or Pet Co to pay for it! Let them name it, and maintain it! heck they can even charge a fee if they want it, that way it is covered by those who use it.

We just started seeing the Pot Hole Patrol for the city being sponsored by private industry. I'll be it, it was less than 10 grand but it is a start the crew wears hats and vest and puts a magnetic sticker on their truck. But at least the 10k, is 10 K less I and you have to pay!

I say sell the whole city for sponsorship rights, Evian on the water towers, security at the schools sponsored by Smith & Wesson, The Mayors bad Hair Cuts sponsored by Great Clips.

All Joking aside, Corporate naming rights and sponsorships are the way to go!

This is America the home of Capitalism, Capitalism unlike what Michael Moore tries to brainwash you with solves problems, socialist big brother is the one that creates them!

Get Pissed, Get Even, Get Involved, VOTE!

MICHAEL IS RIGHT. CAPITALISM HAS REPLACED DEMOCRACY.

IT IS UNCHRISTIAN AND UNBIBLICAL.

.

How dumb to refuse state money. State grants will go to someone, why not Aurora?

Stephanie may be the best alderman on the council. She understands the process and is very astute.

Rick is often right on some issues but shoots himself in the foot. Not very effective. Does not know how to gain support, a loose canon.

Juany is well liked by her constituency. She tries.

The rest of the clowns should take the show on the road.

Anonymous said...

The third ward is one big dog park. We should just make a dog fighting cage, it fits the area.

Anonymous said...

Who cares if it Christian and unbiblical? Not I and not the Muslims who are moving in and going to slit your throat while you kneel praying for your savior to throw a shield around your home or save you. Faith did not save a single Christian from a lion nor will it save your children.

Looking forward to the dog park and the benches. It is a great addition to Phillips Park!

We could save $3,000 by making Rosario DeLeon pay for his calls to Columbia that he made on his city cell phone and that the mayor is trying to bury.

Anonymous said...

Wow - my work cell phone pays for the first $40 - then I pick up the rest. Must be nice to have those public sector perks.

Anonymous said...

How can the Mayor bury the phone records of DeLeon?? FOIA them! Don't squack in the shadows!

THe Westside Warrior

Anonymous said...

They have been FOIAd. Alayne is ignoring the FOIA as she usually does.

Anonymous said...

Hey Anonymous 8:10,
Isn't that like against the law or something

Let's see the mayor wants the Ascme union to take 45 furlough days or a 24% pay cut, but just settled with another Ascme local and they took 10 furlough days next year??? Is he showing his displeasure with a certain union? The city is then going to piss away money on parks???
Who's gonna use them, when there is no parking available? Someone has to ask when he plans to exit the mayors job for one with the state. The interesting parallel is what weisner is doing to the city and what obama is doing to the country. Neither has a clue and both are vindictive!!

Anonymous said...

Maybe they're using Deleon's Columbia connection to launder weisner's "campaign contributions" from Richard Wilcox for items put in the new police palace?

Will someone in the know just call the FBI. They took down Meisch and there are a few, obviously, who need to room with him.

Anonymous said...

Guess who won the 2009 nobel peace prize.

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA

Not bad for someone you all hate so much.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, it just trivialized that award!
He's in fine company: Jimmy "no one likes the colored fellow" Carter,
Al " the world is warming" Fat Ass Gore, and some other socialsts. Not bad for an award that was started b y a guy who invented dynamite. He has accomplished so much. Killed Pontiac and Saturn, ruined Chrysler,
screwed the American Soldiers, screwed the allies in the Czech Republic, spurned Israel, and driven the country deeper in debt.
He's the best!!!! Pull your head out of that dark smelly place and see what's going on around you.

Anonymous said...

7:26 To someone who can add two and two, it is totally meaningless.

Anonymous said...

If the union agrees to take more than 30 furlough days, then they employees will only have parttime status and can be laid off by the mayor with no opportunity to bump into any other positions. They will just be gone. Remember, Weisner is not your friend and is not looking out for your interests. He just wants to get rid of the union so he can put more of his cronies in place.

Even if the union did agree to furlough days, Weisner said he would still lay off at least 10 more union employees. Of course, his cronies will not be laid off; in fact, most of them got raises with the new titles he gave them.

Can't wait to see BHO dump on his general in Afganistan and blame him for failure. What do you think that bow to the Saudi prince was all about. BHO was saying to him "don't worry I'll take care of the problem so that all the moslems will be happy." Bow to your prince you devil.

To all you poor losers of the election:

Now you know how we felt about "W" with one finger on the button and the other up his nose.

The big difference is that Obama is a good man and "W" is a fool.

Anonymous said...

Educate me.

What attributes make Obama a good man?

Stephanie Kifowit seems to be an intelligent, thoughtful woman. It would be nice if Philip's Park became an attraction drawing vistors from all areas of the City. It can be a show piece someday so I don't complain about her efforts.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, all you have to do to earn the Nobel Peace Prize is allow a bunch of filthy Muslim extremist wearing dirty nightshirts to slit the throats of the children of the United States and you are a candidate.

Another example of how well the city does its job.

This mini dog area will be a great compliment to Phillips Park. That park is a nice destination point and what's wrong with admitting it and building something that families can all use.

Anonymous said...

I for one do not mind my tax dollars going to a dog park and I commend those members of the City Council who refuse to engage in defeatist and negative thinking that always seems to hold this City back.

Anonymous said...

Since this only benefits a small segment of the city it should be paid via a special assessment.

Anonymous said...

Didn't Phillips Park just win first place as the best park in the Chicago Area???

I live on the west side and use the park. Why is it considered a local park, It's a city park>

Anonymous said...

How much taxes to you pay?

"I for one do not mind my tax dollars going to a dog park"

Anonymous said...

It is a dog park, for dog owners. They should simply add a tax on the dog tags to cover this idiotic spending by an irresponsible city council.

Anonymous said...

I see all those non-hispanic families picnicking there...

Anonymous said...

Stop the F*(!&Y# Taxing us to death already!

IT HAS TO STOP! IN NOT NOW, WHEN IF NOT HERE WHERE!

ANYONE WHO IS FOR THIS PARK IS A EDIOT!

PAY FOR IT WITH PRIVATE MONEY! NOT MY TAX DOLARS.

Hey what about the Shodeen project? How many millions of our dollars did Weisner give to Kent Shodeen and what do we have but a hole that is leaching hazardous contaminants in the fox river and our drinking water supply.

Go Weisner.

Anonymous said...

So if I am to understand this asinine logic, because Weisner robbed the city blind with one stupid project after another we should allow Kifowit to do it?

She already had the city demolish a house, and then give the lot to a constituent for a $1 to expand his business. How would you like to have been his competitor who actually had to pay for their land?

Now we should pay for dog parks? They are cutting city services and she wants a dog park, bat houses, purple martin houses. - Sheesh!

Anonymous said...

If a dog park is "needed" then dog owners should pay for it. Not the rest of us. This cannot be the responsibility of taxpayers. There is no "need" to own a dog.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the idea to put a simple fence around a grass area and that's it. No stupid $2,000 dog-bone benches. Have people lost their minds? Does Kifowit actually understand where these grants and funds come from? She can pay for it from her own pocket.

Anonymous said...

It's great fun when you are an irresponsible politician who is willing to spend taxpayers dollars when 18% of the country is out of jobs. THis is why you should vote them ALL out next election cycle. Don't complain about high taxes if you think this is the best way to be spending at this point in time. Personally I would say it would be better to use the money to feed or house someone in need and out of a job....thanks to OSMAMA OBAMA. May he can use his foreign reward to do likewise!

Anonymous said...

11:56 are you kidding, Barack only talks about compassion. Look at his relatives, he won't even give his brother 5 bucks to double his early income!

Obama is a typical liberal he will spend everyone else's money because he has never done an honest days work in his life. It must be that ghetto mentality of his wife's, because as we know Barack comes from elite circumstances where he was able to finely cultivate his snobbish sensibilities.

Anonymous said...

Why hasn't weisner's privatizing plans sent all the parks to the Fox Valley Park District??? Don't they run the water parks, golf courses, Prisco Center, Vaughn Center, Eola Center??? They are a taxing body. Why are there two entities running the same things. "Power Struggle", poor fiscal management, or mere ineptness?? Double dipping the tax payers needs to stop. Or is it just another place to hide political cronies.

Anonymous said...

We could raise funds by operating a cathouse.

Anonymous said...

10:26 - remember the Park District tried to force another tax increase on the citizens to fund the waterpark on Galena. They were voted down so the city ended up end running the citizens by financing the construction for them. So I don't think they get into turf wars as much as neither body ever saw a tax they did not like. Messereli (or whatever) is a tax and spend goon who has demonstrated his disdain for taxpayers and in his words does not care what the citizen's think as they are appointed not elected.

Rather the same disdain Weisner, O'Connor, Irvin and Kifowit show even though the are elected.

Maybe someone can do a FOIA and see how many of Deleon's tenants got jobs and work for the city street department.
