Chicago Mayor Daley Seeks Massive Fare Increases for Crumbling CTA

Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has a fiscal crisis, is falling apart and has been mismanaged by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley for 20 years, so what's the solution?

Last year, it was a sales tax increase for suburban voters to bailout the CTA. Now, with the latest budget crisis, the proposal is for massive fare increases.

None of it changes the basic problem. CTA is dysfunctional and crumbling after 20 years of Daley control and will NEVER be able to sustain itself and be "fixed."

The 2016 Olympic Bid exposed one of the biggest flaws with the Chicago metropolitan area, which is mass transit. The RTA (Regional Transit Authority) is just a name and agency, but when it comes to actual interconnectivity between the CTA, Metra (suburban trains) and Pace (suburban bus), it doesn't exist.

We say the solution is to eliminate the CTA and instead merge all three major transit agencies into a regional network that improves suburban-to-suburban transit, eliminates the current connection gaps and takes Chicago politics out of the equation. Merging the transit agencies will save hundreds of millions in administration costs.

Otherwise, be prepared for another tax increase coming soon.

Daley era seems to be coming to an end....No one else to tax, so he has to find new ways to get in your pockets.

So why should we care?

Seems to me that 30 or 40 years ago that was the idea behind the formation of the RTA. The idea then to use the suburban taxpayers to subsidise the city transit system. Now we have more proof that government cannot run any enterprise like this......or health care.

What you are seeing is what happened in England years ago under socialist governments..everything that the government touches either goes broke or breaks down.
