SciTech Aurora Museum Terminates Executive Director Due to Budget Pressure | Planetarium Proposal on Hold

SciTech, the museum in downtown Aurora that occupies the former U.S. post office on Benton, is experiencing budget pressure and has let go both its Executive Director and assistant.

Shawn Carlson and David Alexander's salaries were more than the revenue being generated, according to the Board of Directors. An interim executive director was appointed who will not be paid any salary.

With the City of Aurora expected to pull back on giving out grants to organizations for their 2010 budget, the museum is going to have even more financial pressure ahead.

A deal for the City of Aurora to give the title of the property to the museum so they could leverage it for financing did not proceed.

The proposed $5 million, 135 seat Planetarium (pictured above) to be connected to the museum is also on hold.

Glad to see Openline can read the Beacon News. Good original reporting.

Do I even need to say that this story was stolen from the Beacon?

Anonymous said...

Or maybe it was stolen from the Daily Herald, who stole it from the Beacon.

So when is the Beacon going to report that the unemployment is expected to keep on rising. When are they going to report that the anointed one can't or doesn't want to handle his mess in Afganistan? When are they going to report rising prices ala inflation caused by the anointed ones monetary policy. When are they going to report that the healthcare proposal is a hoax on the American public? When are they going to investigate Acorns fraud in the past election? When will they ever report on anything worthwhile?

Why do you expect Beacon to do all that reporting? Why don't Openline
report that the unemployment is expected to keep on rising and report that the anointed one can't or doesn't want to handle his mess in Afganistan? Why doesn't Openline report rising prices ala inflation caused by the anointed ones monetary policy and report that the healthcare proposal is a hoax on the American public? Why don't Openline investigate Acorns fraud in the past election? When will Openline ever report on anything worthwhile? When will Openline ever get an exclusive and stop stealing from the Beacon and the Daily Herald?

The deal fell through due to the Mayors comments on the deal. Compared to the ideas that he has brought to the table this one was pretty good.

Too bad they didn't work harder at raising funds. Same thing is going to happen at the Historical Society.
