Kifowit Blasts Third Ward's Poor Quality of Life She Created

Last night, the Aurora City Council voted 12-0 to deny a proposed condo and townhome development on the northeast portion (Ward 1) of the city near I-88 and Farnsworth Avenue on a 15 acre parcel.

The city council thought the specific type of development for that area would add to issues of traffic and the target market would mean substantial numbers of new students for the already-strapped East Aurora School District, which had previously voted 7-0 to recommend denial of the project unless it was age-targeted for seniors. Others would prefer to see commercial development or the land used for flood mitigation.

Viewers report Third Ward Alderman Stephanie Kifowit was harshly critical of the project because it would lead to the poor quality of life she has in her own ward, specifically in reference to the controversial Hometown project.

According to viewers, Kifowit lectured everyone last night on when the Hometown project was originally proposed, it promised not to result in overcrowding, large increases of students, traffic and parking problems, but all of those happened with deteriorating quality of life. Viewers say she made it sound as if anyone would have been foolish to vote for that project.

What she neglected to mention was Stephanie Kifowit helped push, support and vote for that same original project.

Apparently, now that her judgment turned out wrong, she wants to rewrite history and lecture everyone else for political gain.

Leaders are not those that go with the prevailing wind. Leaders have principles regardless of what is politically convenient or "sounds good" at the moment.

Maybe that's why her campaign for mayor in 2009 resulted in a last-place finish. Her slogan was "leadership that listens."

She's too busy trying to listen to which way the wind blows, but that's not the type of leadership the Third Ward needs.

Note: In 2011, there will be an election for 7 Aurora City Council seats, including Ward 3

Kifowit flip-flops a lot.

She's a tax-n-spend, pro-abortion extreme liberal now.

I tend to agree that site would not be good for multi-unit housing near I-88, but what is the city's plan for that area?

I attended last nights meeting and saw Rick Lawerance in action for the first time. He goated the developer into filing a law-suit. Only for the gain of playing I got you. His grandstanding by asking the city lawyer in public is the city going to get a law-suit filed against them. Does he not understand you can pick up a telephone and have asked that same question. He said he did not want to have the 4th ward responsible for the law-suit. Then why did he bring it up. Then after all of that he votes no.
If Rick ever thinks he will become mayor I will campaign door to door against him. Also Rick stop sending your world relief trash over to the east side. As you stated the school system is already strapped

Is that true? Did Kifowit vote for the original Hometown? That would be very hypocritical her now to blast the plan.

Comment at 11:41am is totally false.

I attended the same meeting and Mr. Lawrence did not goat the developer into anything. He asked a very relevant question on behalf of taxpayers about any liability the city could have by the vote and even Alayne Weingartz, the city attorney called said THAT'S A FAIR QUESTION.

Please let me add that if Stephanie Kifowit runs for anything else in the future or even alderman again, I will campaign against her. She has turned into one of the worst flip-floppers ever. She is a fair-weather politician who thinks she knows it all but is all about her own ego and ambition.

No wonder she finished in LAST place in the mayor's race.

Kifowit, how's the old Copley Hospital going?

The eastside is a third world toilet.

Love Stephanie. She is well qualified and a real fighter. I did vote for her for mayor but the present mayor is so well financed by his buddies that it was an uphill battle.

Also, Little Richard tried to be a spoiler. Too bad Rick quit. Could have been interesting to see if he would have stolen last place.

Why don't you have the balls and ask "Little Tommy" about Copley Hospital?
This is his buddy's project. Don't make it look like it's Stepanie's problem.

Town houses are a disaster anywhere.

Who thinks they will be an answer to the Jerico area? Just repeating another slum.

Stephanie may have supported the Hometown development but it was the council that approved the plans submitted by that goof.

The mayor's race was going to be a clear win for Weisner without Lawrence. If either Irvin or Kifowit think they will ever be mayor, they are hallucinating, unless they are the only two candidates, which will never happen.

Has anyone driven through or around the 3rd Ward? It sucks and the Copley Hospital situation is just one big symbol of how it's really not changed much other than become worse since Kifowit became alderman. I'm not blaming it ALL on her, but what has she actually done to improve the ward? Selling skybox tickets to White Sox games?

Kifowit is totally out of the loop on the Copley situation now and even before. She doesn't have the political courage to deal with it.

Stephanie was among the biggest cheerleaders for the Hometown development when she was soliciting campaign contributions from Bigelow.

It's only when Bigelow didn't pay to play with her and instead went with Weisner that Kifowit had issues with Hometown.

Kifowit's sudden realization that Hometown doesn't work is far too late. Just proves she is in the wrong position as alderman. She might be better at substitute teaching.

I would run against Kifowit if I lived in the 3rd Ward, but does anyone know which other wards are up for election? I know Ward 8 is up again, which is the extra seat. Irvin's seat is also up.

You people need to get your facts straight. Hometown was created way before Anyone ever heard of Stephanie Kifowit. Ron Moses was the Alderman for the 3rd Ward at the time. And, I could be wrong, but at the time, Pierce was still Mayor, so please, get our facts straight, I would hate for Openline Blog to lose their credibility over this.

It is Annette Johnson who put together the 7-0 vote on the East Aurora School Board. It then gave the City a excuse not to pass it. If Johnson would have been on the Board back with Bigelow the outcome of Home-town would have been far different. The losers that have made up that Board for the last ten years have turned that school system into a City dumping ground that it is today.
She is a interesting person to listen to.

Kifowit is a an idiot on her best days. She parrots and mimics the speech patterns of intelligent people but is incapable of rational thought. She truly is one of the dumbest women I have ever had a conversation with.

4:17pm...get your facts straight.
Ron Moses was never an alderman for Ward 3. Ron was the city attorney, the same position Alayne Weingartz now holds. The alderman at the time for Ward 3 was Ken Hinterlong.

Hindsight is always perfect. Most thought that Hometown was going to be a loser, but others thought it was worth a try. The people living there like their subdivision, at least for now. Maybe people won't like your neighborhood in another ten years either, Mista. Neighborhood stability is fleeting at best.........

You Stay Classy Openline said...

Very classy to post an article and leaving ridiculous comments blasting a former Marine on Veteran's Day. Thank You Ms. Kifowit for your service to our country.

Anonymous said...

Classy? Kifowit was a secretary and clerk with the Marines and has no hesitation to exploit her so-called Marine experience for political gain.

Have you seen how ridiculous she looks like on Veterans Day with her Marine outfit?

I'm tired of seeing politicians exploit things like Veterans Day.

Rick Lawerence did put the city in a bad spot by talking about liabilty. Weingraf also answered the question like the idiot she is. To bad both did not have the cities best interest than trying to play I got you. Rick could have picked up the phone before the meeting and did not
have to go public. Both need to go that is why the city is broke

You can blame anyone for what is happening here, Kifowit or whoever else but D131 can't handle anymore students in the district there is just no room for more. To think that Johnson stopped this is crazy. There where a lot of people against this. Until we get this district (131) under control we don't need any more home development. The only thing Johnson is afraid of is something like this development will bring her property values down and not for the best of the district.

Rick lawrence asked on what legal basis could the City Council deny to developers plan. Leroy Kieth gave a good answer. Alyane came across stupid in her inability to answer the question.
People should be more afraid that she does not have the best interest of the taxpayers in mind.
Rick didn't say anything that the developers own lawyer would not have known or been thinking. I think it shows that Rick understands the results of their votes.
This would not be the first time the City has been sued for ignoring private property rights. Look at the Hotel on 59.

Alderman Lawrence didn't "goat" anyone - the term is "goad".

Anonymous said...

What questions did Kifowit ask? Or did she just grandstand?

Anonymous said...

YES RON MOSES WAS AN ALDERMAN FOR THE THIRD WARD. I BELIEVE FROM 2000-2004.

Anonymous said...

Ron Moses was appointed by the mayor to replace Hinterlong who moved out of the ward.

Anonymous said...

I still liked the plan Kifowit came up with as an incentive for high school boys to motivate them to do better in school.

Rick Lawerance is a poor excuse for a Alderman

Anonymous said...

10:06 whom do you think is a good Alderperson?

Employees of two Aurora businesses were charged with selling tobacco to a minor after Aurora police conducted a citywide investigation last week. Clerks at Mobil Gas in the 800 block of West Illinois Avenue and BP Amoco in the 2200 block of West Galena Boulevard sold tobacco to an underage person working with police. The operation randomly checked 16 Aurora businesses, according to police spokesman Dan Ferrelli, and the others checked the minor's identification and refused to sell tobacco.

Hello, WTF ! We have gang and drug and crime and budget issues and Aurora Cops make targeting business who sell some cigarettes to a teenager in a sting a priority?????

What is this sorry excuse for a city coming to.

I could careless if some teens but some smokes. Drivebys and gangbanging are what I am worried about.

Ron Moses was an Alderman for ward 3-and a poor one at that.Call him about a problem and he tell's you he has worse problems.
The problems with Home Town aren't of Kifowit's makings. Don't we have other Aldermen in this town besides Lawrence and Kifowit. What do they do for their wards? And at the meetings? Sleep? We never hear anything that they've done.
Hometown is turning into a Jericho Circle. Too many people, drugs, gangs and over crowding. Why do we need to put up more of the same. It is now Kifowits fault that it has turned that way. The police won't ticket people that live there for parking illegaly or really, just about anything else. It's now cheaper housing and multiple families can afford to buy together.
The concept might have been good if the developers hadn't tried to shove everything into a small area.
The drug dealers love the street--makes it hard for the cops to come chasing through.
Lawrence you blowhard, what's up in your ward?
Old Copley isn't the only abandoned building in Aurora, and it is one of Weisner's buddies that bought it. Ask Weisner what up with it.

Anonymous said...

Lawrence you blowhard, what's up in your ward?

Hey dude, get real. Lawrence has done a great job confronting drug dealers and gangs in his area. Seriously he has shown a pair in this regard. He has helped drive out at least one family of drug dealers that I know of, and I have heard there have been more.

So I think that takes him out of the blowhard category. At least he has done something and made a positive impact.

Hey Rick: Great job on Jericho Circle! The place is collapsing on residents and he's been silent!!!!!! Where's the leadership?

Anonymous said...

Driving the residents of WestWood out is leadership. Too bad we cannot sterilize them before they leave though.

Ms. Kifowit wasn't Alderman when the Hometown project was discussed and ultimatley approved.
So we blame her because.......?
