I am the ONLY retired school superintendent IN AMERICA--black or white, urban or suburban--who dared to return to a tough inner-city high school to TEACH, and I was still doing it in my seventies at Detroit Finney High. I recount my adventures there in my autobiography, "A Life on the RUN - Seeking and Safeguarding Social Justice" (www.alifeontherun.com). My book--which former Detroit mayor Dennis Archer calls "Spellbinding!" reveals how to do this successfully. - Dr. John Telford, an educator of 52 years' experience. (I was an NCAA All-America quarter-miler at Wayne State University in 1957: Thus, the pun on "RUN" in my book title.
