Aurora City Council Reverses Earlier Blunder and Votes 7-5 to Allow Sonic Drive-In Extra Hour to Midnight in 24 Hour Wal-Mart Parking Lot

In a rare move for the Aurora City Council and 7-5 vote, they did something right to support private business by allowing the Sonic Drive-In at Kirk & Butterfield in the 24 hour Wal-Mart shopping center to remain open until midnight, an extra hour.

Two years earlier, they had rejected the request to stay open to midnight, even though it's a 24 hour shopping center.

Abigail Schuler, Alderman of the 1st Ward, claimed residents on the nearby subdivision would suffer with the additional hour.  However, city officials could not find any evidence of problems.

Alderman Rick Lawrence says the business and Wal-Mart have taken steps to address any concerns with city officials and want to be consistent with their national advertising campaign of staying open to midnight.

In addition to Lawrence, the other city council members who voted to allow the private business to stay open for an extra 60 minutes included Rick Mervine, Allan Lewandowski, Juany Garza, Bob O'Connor, Richard Irvin and Stephanie Kifowit.

Schuler was one of five votes against the business, including John "Whitey" Peters, Mike Saville, Lynda Elmore and Scheketa Hart-Burns.

Didn't Whitey vote against building a Sonic on Orchard Rd? (his ward) Those are sales and property tax dollars that went unrealized and Whitey doesn't realize it! What a numbscull!!

Can't believe we previously stopped these folks from having an HOUR extra of business.

Whitey Peters and Abby Schuler are so dumb. I have to tell my kid every day we pay taxes so dumb people can waste our money doing dumb things.

Whitey voted against the westside Sonic because he said he wanted a "white tablecloth" restaraunt on orchard. Now the economic climate has passed and he squandered an opportunity at a destination restaraunt. Like Chic fil a, people travel to eat at Sonic. and we wait for the white tablecloth as the tax dollars are wasted on the next thing these budding business consultants (city council) want to invest (divest us) in.

So Openline, you agree with Kifowit?

Interesting. Looks like Lawrence voted in favor of printing the tree-killing newsletter at taxpayer expense, and Kifowit voted against it. What do you have to say about that, Openline?

Lawrence understands that cutting tress forces us to manage our fragile ecosystem, rather than allow trees to grow huge, create deadwood and fire hazards, they are harvested. It also employees lumberjacks to cut the trees, employs university Ag people in assessing their management, employs people to plant new trees, truckers to transport the trees, manufacturers to convert it to paper, then warehouses to ship it, and printers to print it. that is not to mention the entire ink supply chain, vehicle maintenance and purchases the peritoneum products etc.

See Rick understands the economy a but more than Stephie where you stick your dick.

It is a job creation machine.

And let the residents that it affects be damned. Like everything else in Aurora, businesses, institutions and out of town investors get 1st priority. The people that live here - not so much.

So you buy a home near Farnsworth and Butterfield road and you don't think that prime retail corridor will be developed? What are you - retarded? That is like buying a home around Kifowit's house and being suprised that guys slow down the car and proposition every large assed, small breasted bleached blond bimbo walking down the street.

Oh, what a surprise. The comments pointing out that Lawrence voted for the wasteful newsletter and Kifowit voted against it were removed. Can't handle the truth, Openline?

Good catch, 4:19. I thought the number of posts didn't add up right. Did you also notice how quickly the post from Openline blasting the whole idea of the newsletter as being a waste went to the "Older Posts" archives as soon as the vote was announced?

Anonymous said...

Oops. Now I did it. Openline will probably remove the entire post and all the comments from the archives now. Along w/ the last 3 comments on this post (including this one). Let's check in the morning, 4:19!

We think Alderman Lawrence and Alderman Kifowit have both demonstrated an ability to be independent, objective and protect the interests of their constituents despite the pressures of the current mayor and his cronyism, exploitation and ethical questions.

We think the second largest city in Illinois deserves elected officials who think beyond the old way of doing things, the old way of enriching cronies, the old way of who's who and the old way of limiting information to the public on what really goes on.

We encourage ALL the members of the city council to join Alderman Lawrence and Alderman Kifowit to communicate and be transparent in their views.
