Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner and Aurora City Council Extract Millions From Children and Classrooms of East Aurora to Put Money in Mayor's Pocket

On Tuesday night, Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner and 10 city council members voted to extract millions from the children of East Aurora in a shakedown and shell game.

East Aurora School District 131 has an unfortunate track record of cooperating with schemes of the Weisner regime that financially exploit taxpayers.

From the Shodeen project to Bigelow Drive-In Theater fiasco to Copley Hospital to land for the new $145 million police palace to the reverse economic development on the near east side of Aurora, the school district has put politics ahead of children, teachers and taxpayers.

Why?

A source at the school district said:

"The mayor knows we are in desperate need of space and he took advantage of the opportunity to shakedown the kids and take $3 million to put in his pocket, which conveniently happens to be about how much he needs to pull off another scheme to help his buddies at Waubonsee College to buy their old campus building after giving millions to the college already that only serves a portion of Aurora."

Alderman Rick Lawrence has pointed out the mayor's inconsistencies on policies and actions when it comes to properties the city gets involved with, but says that just because the mayor wants to take millions from classrooms, that doesn't mean the city should.

One East Aurora taxpayer and parent said:

"Weisner doesn't give a damn about children or education.  He's more interested in taking money from kids and making sure these various projects end up with contracts with his cronies.  If he were really interested in education, he would have told the Dunham Fund to give the schools millions instead of funding his $20 million stupid park that was supposed to be privately financed."

City spokesgirl Carie Ergo said the mayor doesn't believe he should help the east side or schools because then he would have to help all the school districts.

You mean like how the city gave millions in land and a parking lot to Waubonsee College, that serves only a portion of Aurora yet has a taxing district of many communities?

Ergo said "that's uh, different, I think."

Except for Lawrence, the rest of the Aurora City Council voted for the scheme.

Several residents are now calling for the resignation of Annette Johnson, the head of the school board and Jerome Roberts, for colluding with the mayor's shakedown to exploit children.

Tell Rick Lawerance to go stick his nose in the West Aurora Boards business they just voted a big raise to their Superintendent making him the 5th highest paid in the State at $330,000.

I must be missing something here. How does selling this building to D131 put any money in the mayor's pocket?

And what "Plan B" is Rick Lawrence suggesting for our kids if we don't buy this building?

Kudos to D131 for using an already existing building to expand the magnet school, instead of hitting up taxpayers. I've been very critical of administrators in this district over bad decisions, but in this case it looks like they got it right.

The one thing that isn't being said is this school will only be available to the students that can get there D131 has no bussing. Also a Magnet School is suppose to be for students the excell in subjects. I'm not say that the students that want to learn should be able to without disturbance in the classroom.

As far as being landlocked there is some property on Hill Ave and Montgomery road that maybe the developer might sell since he is not selling any homes and there are rumors he is bankrupt and the land donation D131 was suppose to get didnt' happen.

So now the district should buy land on Hill Ave BTW the asking price is 1.1 million and build a school so residents on the far north east side of town should drive to. Root is in the middle of town. Be happy it is a great deal

I dont understand Ald. Lawrence's assertion that the City of Aurora should ever give away it's (our) assets. The assets belong to the taxpayer. Much like Openline's attitude toward Aurora helping Waubonsee when it is supposed to be funded by the whole district, the same principle applies. 131 should fund 131, and 129 taxpayers should not! Rick, how can you be so contradictory?

If the Mayor said give it away Lawerance would want to charge them. Laweance has become a joke he just votes no out of anger not common spence

Every one of you is a moron if you think this is a Good deal.

Lawrence from what I can tell has the only set of Balls on the entire city council or in local city government for that matter.

This city has given millions to dig holes in the ground with no return, this city has paid millions to subsidize bars and restaurants.

This city has over spent on almost every construction project it has done under the wiz. The police station is a Joke and in fact criminal in how it was allowed to even happen.

NOW the morons on city council allow the WIZ to Rape every student on the east side and you all keep drinking his crony pay to play kool aid.

YOU all are truly the biggest bunch of losers I have ever come across.

Aurora city hall is a sewer of criminal activity, trust me I can wait till they all get theirs. Prison is to good a pace for these idiots!

I'm pretty sure the mayor isn't going to rape ever kid on the east side. That would be over 13,000 counts of rape. That is a lot of sex.

I found the comments (except 2:39 and 2:40) to be much more informative than the basic Openline sensationalized article. (Obviously, 2:39 and 2:40 were cut-and-pastes from somewhere -- probably Lawrence's PC.)

Lawrence has little credibility. All he does is bad-mouth everything. Whenever he does come up with a good idea, no one will follow him. He is so combative. Was he abused as a child?

It is true, Rick has no credibility with morons. And those with intellect who speak out against him are trying to take the focus off the truth he speaks.

I think Rick Lawrence stood up for the tax paying citizens. It dosen't matter what district you live in, if your paying taxes then they are spending your money. General funds comes for everyone, even those who live outside of Illinois. They are federal funds.

The magnet school was not suppose to cost the citizens any additional funds....read the info.

What is truly is the district admitting they cannot control their regular classrooms. Every student that has gotten up to talk about why they like going to the magnet school brings up, no bullying, no fighting, no troublemakers. The students that attend are not educationaly advances, they just have parents that can take them and pick them up. Parents that make sure their children go to school. Sounds like segregation to me. Elitism. Or possibly the board finally admitting they can't handle the schools. Or just giving up on all the rest of the student body. They will just have to deal with the bullies (adult included).

Frankly I don't understand why the state board of eduction is putting an end to this. Magnet schools are not "required". The taxes we pay are to educate all the students in this community EQUALLY. Not a handful who's parents are home and/or have someone available to drop them off and pick them up.

The same 5 or 6 families show up all the time and we are lead to believe they "represent" the whole of the district. If 5 or 6 families show up with a different outlook, they are just complaining, unhappy, disgruntled.

Keep it up Rick.

oops in reference to previous post in paragraph 5 it should read

Frankly I don't understand why the board of education ISN'T putting an end to this.

Anonymous said...

That right they don't not represent the entire district. The entire district are a bunch of illegals and Aurora Housing blacks that don't give a damm about education. All they care about is the next free hand out

Anonymous said...

All they have is 500 good students and parents that care so why not save 500. Or are the d131 teachers worried that they won't have these students to help in class like that was stated by the parents and students at the meeting. I attended the meeting and now I thank god for every dollar I spent in West Aurora Schools.
I also read in the paper teachers rejected their contract if I was on that board I would not give them a dime. All I can say is those poor kids. Even the superintendent made excuses.

The only City subsidy Rick liked and voted yes for involved his buddy Joe Vantrese.

Anonymous said...

Vantreese did not get a city subsidy. The investors took all the risk. The only mistake was depending on the City to support their project.
That was the only development that actually had to produce taxes in order to recapture a small potion of them.
Unfortunately the Shodeen project was front funded $7,000,000.00 and the TIF was guaranteed by the City. The taxpayers continue to pay him 7 1/2 percent tax free. It will never be built, Kent is now 79 years old and has two many other projects in the works. Plus he will be made completely whole on any investment in Aurora and his profit without building anything.
As for Vantreese, The Mayor is the one who took campaign money from Joe Vantreese. Much of it was not always legal.

Rick Lawerance gets special favors for his daughters at West. He wanted to give East 3 million so he could demand 3 million for the new preschool center west is trying to build behind the scenes. Rydland did not get his way with United Way and is out name calling. Rydland should learn Rick can't raise a dime. How about that expunged displine record Rick the good Dr helped you with

Anonymous said...

You obviously don't know Rick or his daughters.
I have never heard Rick talk about a day care facility. West has Lincoln sitting empty if they need space, they have a building.
Unlike the Alderman on the east side, Rick has fought for District 129. It sounds like Annette Johnson just wants to waste tax dollars and she is mad at Rick for pointing it out

Anonymous said...

As a taxpayer who owns property in both district 131 and 129, this deal is really dumb. I understand Weisner did a shakedown and district 131's incompetent leadership went along with the scam but this will get worse from here.

As the mayor's cronies, including Cordogan Clark corrupt the magnet school deal, we will soon see another "deal" on waubonsee's old building.

Why did we give land to Waubonsee's for a dollar?

Anonymous said...

No it sounds like the Mayors office is mad at Rick for exposing his son.

Anonymous said...

Lincoln is a mess they would need millions to turn it into a Preschool and then they could only use the first floor. It costs the district to maintain Lincoln and Todd over $900.000 per year. Things are not well in d129 either. Teachers gave back raises and benefits and Rydland got a raise. Gangs and mob action rule the hallways in d129. That is why d129 tried to dump Jerico Circle.

Open Line Says: "The mayor knows we are in desperate need of space and he took advantage of the opportunity to shakedown the kids and take $3 million to put in his pocket, which conveniently happens to be about how much he needs to pull off another scheme to help his buddies at Waubonsee College to buy their old campus building after giving millions to the college already that only serves a portion of Aurora."

East Aurora's school district only serves part of aurora, too. WTF

Anonymous said...

When is Vantrese going to finish the riverwalk he agreed to construct for his City subsidy?

Anonymous said...

Vantrese passed away two years ago. The river walk will not be completed unless the city pays for it. Vantrese stole all the money the condo association had paid and now the resident of River Street are having to pay double in order to pay the bills Vantrese didn't pay (ComEd, Nicor & Comcast)
