Aurora's west side woke up Sunday morning to an overnight attack by gang members of the Latin Kings, including neighborhood streets such as Downer and Locust to places like Healy Chapel, a funeral home.

Meanwhile, Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner boasted at his fundraisers, where contractors and cronies looking to do business with the city stuff money into his pockets, that "crime is down" in Aurora.

Weisner says one of his "accomplishments" is spending $145 million of taxpayer funds to build a new Aurora Police Palace that "coincidentally" rewarded millions to his cronies, including Cordogan Clark, that "coincidentally" gave a job to his son.

Not coincidentally, a massive police station didn't prevent or deter these attacks from happening.

But, the mayor isn't worried about crime.  He says Aurora needs more cheap housing as an alternate to other chronic failures under his watch such as the Jericho Circle public housing complex.

More cheap housing is only possible by reducing property values for others.

Looks like Weisner can count on the Latin Kings to help him further reduce property values and increase cheap housing.

The Aurora City Council will vote this Tuesday on endorsing Weisner's "increase cheap housing, reduce property values" strategy.

Don't worry, Aurora.

Crime is down and all is well...according to Weisner and the Latin Kings.

Don't forget, this is the same mayor who tried to take credit for how shootings were down. If he wants to take credit when crime is down, they he should take credit for when our quality of life is harmed like this.

..and this is the Mayor's fault? I live on Downer. "Mr. painter" did this at about 11:30 pm last night. Police investigating since the early hours. McDonalds caught "Mr. painter" on video. Red shirt, tall Hispanic dude. 17-18 years old.

A tall hispanic dude??? No way, hispanics are such good people, They would never do anything like that...nah!.no way!

Yea..lets give these Illegal hispanics more amnesty, so we can keep having more grafitti and street gangs....Such lovely people.

Crime is down but corruption is WAY up.

We need a bigger police station.

Having a massive police station is a symbol of how big crime is in Aurora but also the size of corruption involving Tom Weisner.

The only reason that crime ever went down was that the ATF and FBI showed up in Aurora some years ago. I assume they will put a stop to this. And it's true, corruption is way up and climbing.

Latin Kings used a "king" symbol that looks remarkably like Tom Weisner who believes he is king of Aurora.

No wonder they agree on reducing property values and making taxpayers miserable.

the feds should deal with the biggest crime in Aurora, which is on the 3rd floor of City Hall.

I still find it hard to believe that Mayor Weisner had the poor judgement to accept money from a fundraiser at the Latin King hangout on New York and Broadway. I'm sure he knows what that place is and repersents. It's disgusting. Mayor you should know better.

For a case of Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill, I would be willing to walk in to Los Quinta de los Reyes and start "throwing the crowns down".......sure I'll get my ass kicked but that case of the good stuff will last a good 10 days.

why is Weisner having fundraisers?

I'm kind of curious: did all these "attacks" happen in different wards, are all they all (or mostly) in just one? If it's the latter, then shouldn't that Alderman also take some heat along w/ Weisner?

Why not? Even if he don't run for office he gets to keep the money. What better way to launder payoffs received for screwing the aurora taxpayers

Is the bearded leader responsible for the criminal acts of others? Absolutely not, unless it was a crimial action he ordered.
He should be held accountable for only his own, public knowledge of which are growing on a daily basis.
However he can pat himself on the back, and claim to be the catalyst of all that is good and just till the cows come home, but that don't make it so.
This administration has abdicated it's responsibility to the electorate as another ego maniacal elected official embarks on a mission of self centered gratification

Too bad that Lawrence was busy breaking into houses in his neighborhood. Maybe he could have caught this graffiti artist if he wasn't preoccupied with burglary. All this damage appears to have been done in his ward.

Hmmmmmm....where is the story about the vacant house looting?

In the Beacon News -- it'll never be on Openline.
