Thanks to the incredible response by the community, taxpayers, schools and officials such Alderman Rick Lawrence, one of Aurora's most chronic problems, Jericho Circle, will soon be demolished as the Aurora Housing Authority (AHA) approved a contract for $1.5 million to demolish all the properties of one of America's worst slums.
However, thanks to incompetence of the Weisner administration and the political battle between the slumlords of AHA (Little Al Schuler and Bill Burns), the question about whether or not another slum will be rebuilt remains unanswered pending various litigation.
Meanwhile, the AHA has named Keith Gregory, previously finance director of the Housing Authority of Fulton County, to be the new executive director starting October 1st.
According to sources and HUD, the financial performance of the Housing Authority of Fulton County was most recently listed as substandard financial in the past year.
The real solution isn't just to demolish Jericho Circle, but to demolish the entire public housing inventory of Aurora Housing Authority and give people in need vouchers so they never have to live in misery again and we don't waste further taxpayer dollars.
