Former US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald Joins Skadden Law Firm After Fighting Corruption Epidemic of Illinois

Patrick Fitzgerald, the former U.S. Attorney in Chicago who has been at the epicenter of the fight against the corruption epidemic of Illinois, will join the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom as a partner based in Chicago, handling corporate internal investigations as well as civil and criminal litigation.

Since being appointed by then Sen. Peter Fitzgerald (no relation) 11 years ago, Patrick Fitzgerald earned a reputation for ethics, details and pursuing justice, regardless of politics.

In addition to corruption convictions of former Illinois Governors George Ryan and Rod Blagojevich, Mr. Fitzgerald was also asked to investigate the 2003 situation of leaked CIA intelligence information regarding Valerie Plame.

That investigation resulted in a conviction of Scooter Libby, an aide to former Vice President Dick Cheney, for obstruction of justice and perjury.

Mr. Fitzgerald is a two-time OpenlineBlog Person of the Year and many of the efforts he pursued are still ongoing, including recent charges against Rahguveer Nayak, the friend and fundraiser for Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner, Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr and Governor Rod Blagojevich.

We cannot understate the importance and our appreciation of Mr. Fitzgerald's efforts to address corruption and fight the political mafia of Illinois from Chicago to Aurora to Springfield.
