Welcome to Election 2013 - City of Aurora, Illinois

On the same evening the Aurora City Council is scheduled to vote on one of worst taxpayer exploitation schemes in history by Mayor Tom Weisner that enrich State Rep Linda Chapa and would cost you over a million dollars on top of $500,000 already lost, we cannot understate how important your choice is for city council members.

Over the years, there have been critical votes where usually 11 city council members made blunders that have cost you millions, so NOW is your chance to choose wisely.

After reviewing the data, questions and answers, who's running and who's not, here's how it could shake-out (and remember, the general election will have more races):

AURORA WARD 4
TOP CHOICE:  Jay Leonardi
RUNNER-UP:  Mike "Leo" Leonardi
TUG-O-WAR:  Chuck Norris and Duane Kleckner
DUMB OR DUMBER:  Mavis Bates and Bill Donnell

AURORA WARD 9
TOSS-UP:  Matt Harrington or Edward Bugg
TOSS-OUT:  Marge Linanne and Bob Shelton

AURORA TOWNSHIP SUPERVISOR (DEM)
PICK'EM:  Christina Campos or Paul Griveskes
HELL NO:  Bill Catching

AURORA TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES (DEM)
ENTER YOUR OWN CHOICES

*** UPDATE ***
RESULTS:  AURORA (Kane, Kendall, Will) - DUPAGE (Partial Ward 9)

NOTE: SOME RACES ARE CONSIDERED TOO CLOSE TO CALL DUE TO POSSIBLE UNCOUNTED BALLOTS

(CURRENTLY LEADING - UPDATED Wednesday 11:33am)

Dang, Openline, why'd you have to go make actual recommendations. I really like Jay Leonardi and would like to see him win. He had a real good chance BEFORE you picked him, but now he's fighting the Openline Effect. The candidates you choose (like Pat Fee) tend to lose.

Nobody will vote anyway.

I really hope Openlines endorsement isn't like the SI cover jinx because there is no way in hell mr Catching should win. Unless the township actually wants a racist alcoholic as their supervisor that is.

Anonymous said...

Catching is not JUST a racist alcoholic, he also has a tendency to lose large sums of money.

I am still voting Matthews - so are my neighbors - the only with any substance on the issues.

All newly elected Alderman will be required to take an oath of absolute obidience to their new Lord and Master, the Mayor of Aurora. Assume the position, please.

Include township trustees if either campos or catching win. They're both up Tommy's butt.

Anonymous said...

So Catching drinks a little?

Anonymous said...

I'm in Ward 1 and there's no aldermanic races, so what the hell am I voting on? I was just wondering if going out in this weather was worth it. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

A little? If your definition of a little is drunk every night, then yeah he drinks a little. And drives afterward. He claims the APD won't get him for DUI because of who he is. Many many people have seen and heard this.

Anonymous said...

11:59 is right. I have heard that myself from a couple of people.

Anonymous said...

Catchings: "Don't you know who I AM?!!"

Anonymous said...

Openline lost any hope of credibility endorsing Harrington.

Anonymous said...

Hey all you commenters....kiss my ass!!!

Anonymous said...

Voted for Bates and Catching.

Anonymous said...

Blank on the mayor.

Anonymous said...

I got high with Leo.

Anonymous said...

None of you dumbasses voted. Don't vote, can't bitch.

Anonymous said...

Bates, Donnell, Catching. Way to go Openline! YES!

Anonymous said...

Yea open line. You know how to pick 'em! Guess this means you will not be accepting that consulting contract from CNN, huh?

Anonymous said...

Mavis in second is pretty impressive

Anonymous said...

Open line should have focused on the supervisor race. unemployed catching finally got a real job

Anonymous said...

Think Clinton, W, and Obama covered the getting high subject ad nauseum!

Anonymous said...

Open line has a great understanding of the heart and soul of of the Aurora community and its voters. Wow, your insight is amazing.

Anonymous said...

Well of course, he doesn't have a doctor wife to mooch off of anymore!

Anonymous said...

Mavis??? One of the stupidest women I've ever met. What's her platform, peace, love and green power? Just goes to show you that Weisner controlled both the alderman AND supervisor races. Everyone who won is in his back pocket.

Anonymous said...

Mavis really is a bubble head. But almost no one voted, proving my prediction that there would be light turn out. And I don't think it was the snow, there were lots of people out. Most of the pod people in Aurora just don't care, which explains the passage of the corrupt and criminal "Restaurant Row" scheme. Apparently you can pull any questionable stunt with taxpayer money and no one will lift a finger to stop you. So let's keep repeating "Downtown not die dead, Downtown die live!" And lets pour another million or so into a stupid project that is counting on a park to support it. On top of which, the Italian place that they are bringing in is mediocre at best, and the other mediocre place, Amaury's, is barely making it.

Anonymous said...

Greviskes was the guy for Supervisor. The only non corrupt one who actually cares about Aurora and not money, alcohol or ego! Shame.

Anonymous said...

Sour grapes anyone? Plenty being served right here.

Anonymous said...

So when the 4th ward was electing and re-electing Rick did that just mean no one cared?

Didn't - think - so.

How many primary elections over the past 20 years have had a turn out of 10 per cent? Quite a few. The lament from all the naysers on the morning after is always how horrible the turn out was but I bet more than a few current office holders were part of that winning 10 per cent.

Anonymous said...

Or maybe percent ...

Anonymous said...

Yep. The Openline Effect is still running at full power -- and yes, 8:59 it's the same principle as the SI cover jinx but more powerful. Openline endorses Jay Leonardi, and says ANYBODY but Bates or Donnell. So naturally that's who we're going to end up with. Jay Leonardi and the others might have ha a chance if Openline had ENDORSED Bates & Donnell.

Anonymous said...

Great job all 30 of you who voted for Matthews. If you'd voted for Jay Leonardi, he'd have beat out Mavis Bates. So you guys have no one to thank for yourselves that the general election will be Donnell and Bates.

Anonymous said...

Open line, PLEASE endorse Billy the Drunk then!

Anonymous said...

What do you mean Bill is a racist?

Anonymous said...

Irish Club ring any bells?

Anonymous said...

Hey 9:17: percent. I have always found this blog to be only in the best mode of syntax, spelling and great taste. How could they post a misspelled word! They tri hrdr nex tiim, OK?

Anonymous said...

I am heartily sorry for offending the spelling sensitivities of this one reader. How could I? Plodding brute I am.

Anonymous said...

Attention all candidates. Behold the endorsement of open line. Splendor in the possibilities. You too can be sitting in Wednesday dejection in April as you wipe the kiss of death off your lips.

10:15 - actually you should blame Duane Kleckner, not the voters. Matthews called him several times and tried to get Duane to drop out with him and endorse Leonardi.

I know Matthews very, very well, he subbed on a couple of PW and Accenture contracts with me. He is a quant, and a damn good one. The best I have ever seen in my 30 years of consulting and as a principle. I talked to him months before the election and he was within 80 votes of predicting the turn out number.

Matthews plainly saw that Jay Leonardi, Kevin Matthews, and Duane Kleckner all were drawing from the same group of voters.

I talked to him about it before he dropped out and he said it was the only logical thing to do. As we figured it he had 54% of that pool, Jay 42% and Duane 4%. Looking at tee results that seems about right.

Any time a candidate drops you can figure 3-12% of the voters will stay the course. That is why it was so key to get Kleckner to drop. But Kleckner did not.

The fact is every candidate who runs on principle has some voters who will not leave them; that is a known entity. Matthews ran on principles so you would expect 3-12% of his voters to not vote or still vote for him. He knew that, I knew that which is why getting Kleckner out also was what was needed.

If you want to point the finger point it to Kleckner not the handful of people who early voted and absentee voted and showed up at the polls for Matthews.

Well, gee, if we want to deflect, then let's blame it on Donnell. It's all his fault because HE didn't drop out. Or how about Lawrence because he didn't run again in the 4th. Or Bates. Or anybody else. But that still doesn't remove the FACT that those 30 votes would have knocked Bates out and put Leonardi on the ballot in the general election. I guess these are people who liked Matthews -- but not enough to listen to him.

Anonymous said...

I blame it on my dog. No, on my friend Bobby. No, it was my teacher and her stupid home work assignment. I couldn't make time to find out about the candidates and get out and vote. No, it was the nasty snow that kept me home busy with the snow blower that day. No, it was choir practice and my scrathcy throat. I couldn't find my polling place as the City changes the location every year. No, I couldn't read the confusing ballot. But it was really the radon found throughout the 4th Ward that made those stupid voters choose Mavis and Bill D to face off in the general.

Gesh, is more pissing and moaning about these six candidates and who should have dropped out possible?

Anonymous said...

How about scratchy and Geesh?

Anonymous said...

How about gee wiz and enough already.

Anonymous said...

Congratulations to Mavis Bates and Bill Donnell on their primary win. It's refreshing to see an honest campaign and honest candidates.

Anonymous said...

5:29 - it includes early votes likely cast before he dropped. And he was asking a lot. Matthews had a solid background based on experience and he was asking his voters to take a flyer on a 19 year old kid who has next to no relevant experience. Think of how hard that had to be for his voters.

Mavis may be facing mail fraud charges.

Anonymous said...

Well, I guess maybe Matthews had the righ idea but his execution sucked. Maybe if he'd stayed in the race and campaigned harder, HE would have knocked Bates off the ballot. But we'll never know. Kind of like when Lawrence chickened out in the mayoral race against Weisner; maybe it would have been the Lawrence administration giving money to LaVia.

Bob Shelton only got 13 votes!! I guess everyone else has a good memory. I don't know what (if anything) those 13 were thinking.

There is an alternative to the Catching Crew for Aurora Township.
Al Heriaud - Supervisor
John Gaglione - Clerk
Bill Bury - Highway Commissioner
Trustees
Harry Crowcroft
Don Duve
Joan Solms
Jim Heriaud

Its' time for new leadership!

Anonymous said...

Don't count Jay Leonardi out. There may very well be a re-count.

Anonymous said...

Why are we not talking about eliminating the township?

Anonymous said...

Hi, I'm Jay Leonardi and I'm running for 4th ward alderman
and they just cut my umbilical cord
Did I mention I've been out of diapers over 190 months?
